The criticism in this thread is obviously directed at Blizzard, not the players. In my case, at least.

posted a message on 3-race campaign idea

A little update: I still haven't decided whether or not to do this project, mainly because of time issues. I know that I in theory have time, but starting such a project is a big commitment, mainly because I'd rather have an unstarted project than an unfinished one (though a finished one is obviously preferable). I have completed a campaign before, and that was a lot of fun. Yet sometimes, it was a lot of work. I spent more time making it than I did playing it.

I'm still very excited by the idea, and I have some cool storylines and gameplay mechanics in work. I also have people who are interested in contributing. I'm guessing what I'll do is wait a little before doing anything specific, before opening a blank map to see if the enthusiasm is still there. I'm guessing it is (making maps is very fun), but I am—as said previously—a bit hesitant to pursue something that feels like a commitment, even though it technically isn't. Not sure that's what I want in my life right now.

I thought I hated the fantasy concept before I saw it. Now I hate it more. Someone explain to me the rationale behind asking SC map-makers to create WC maps? Is it just because of that WC mod? Booooo, I say. I get that WOW is super-popular. Hell, I don't even dislike the game, personally. I loved WC3 even. But half the heroes in HOTS are WC heroes. Fine. But now a WC theme for a SC map editor? Are you kidding me?

posted a message on Minimap after cinematic reveal

Are you referring to the Global Cinematic Settings trigger (or whatever it's called)? Because its purpose is to reveal the map without affecting the game setting revealers. If you want to reveal something in game mode, use the Create Revealer trigger.

It will fit very well with an interlude. I intend to do non-playable maps made up only of cinematics, which means you can do more advanced terrain (like ceilings) since you don't have to worry about gameplay.

Oh, come now, don't be ashamed, it's just the golden rule of art - Good artists rip-off, great artists steal. Sort of. xD

    True.

lol no need to make a new map you can use my map is there.

You know, that's not a bad idea. My next campaign was going to be collaborative, anyway.

posted a message on [ARTICLE] The Issue with Happy Endings

The popularity of ownbeat endings is a reflection of the times we live in. We have reached new heights with technology and we have never been richer, but we're also fighting a war on terror, we're coming off the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression, and we feel guilty about the wealth we have because it's causing global warming.

I personally use downbeat endings for a more simple reason: because I'm bored with happy endings. You forget about them the moment the story's done. Downbeat endings stick with you. I got great feedback for the ending of Amber Sun. It hit people in a way I didn't expect. Continuing down that path with Aureolin Eclipse was a logical decision, as I wanted to remain tonally consistent.

And for God's sake, use spoiler warning tags. Is that so frickin' hard?

    Quote from JayborinoPlays: Go

I don't understand why people are so adamant to let us know that ideas don't get followed through on. It's not like there's some grand plan in place that would constitute a waste of time if nothing gets completed.

I think it's mostly meant as a favorable reality check, as there seems to be a slight negative correlation between ambition rate and completion rate. A lot of people start sketching stuff that just... takes off in size. So it's just a tip for people to scale down their ambitions if they actually want to make a map. One might argue how fitting that is for this project, but, speaking from experience, I can say there is some truth to it.

I love the idea of controlling hybrids, and I really love the idea of just letting the story "spin out of control", so to speak. If I had the time, I'd contribute. Maybe in January.

posted a message on StarCraft II: Annihilation Campaign

Cinematic portraits should be bottom left and gameplay portraits should be center right. Anything else is disgusting.

Cool to see more of the next mission. Seems Krayen is going back to where he was in mission 6.

    Quote from OutsiderXE: Go

If I remember correctly EivindL also puts the portrait on the left side, and he said he does it to keep it consistent with the non-cinematic transmissions.

    Wrong.

Portraits should allign with the text.

posted a message on EivindL's LOTV review (Spoilers)

I'm not sure the point is that they don't change, as much as it is that they have a hard time changing. Because, after all, they do change a lot during the two games. In The Fall, they learn to embrace the dark templars once more (they even side with humans), with Aldaris and the rest of the Conclave realizing the error of their ways. In The Stand, this alliance is challenged, first because they have to leave Aiur for Shakuras, and second because they decide to ally with Kerrigan. True, Aldaris reverts to his old ways somewhat, but we later learn this is because he knows Kerrigan is controlling Raszagal.

Between the first game and the second, they slowly reunite again, though there is obvious tension, which Artanis tries to suppress with his attempt to reclaim Aiur in LOTV. When this fails, the Protoss has to change once more, first by surrendering the Khala, then later by uniting with the Purifiers and the Tal'darim to defeat Amon. They also come to the rescue on Korhal, returning Raynor's favor when he helped them with the Overmind.
