SC2 terrain in relation to WC3 terrain

What so far bothers me with the former in regards to the latter is that several functions that I consider vital are not as easily accessed, or in some cases aren't even implemented.

Mainly refering to vertical doodad rotation (flipping), different fog control, and the fact that doodads are always affected by the terrain height (implying that construction is borderline impossible on uneven ground). I also dislike how the choice of tileset directly affects the scenery to such extent that it gets monotonous.

    These are my latest terrains.

Note that these are Warcraft III terrains, composed in the world editor. The constructions you see are not single piece models, but a composed scenery with thousands of models put together.

I should also clarify that these are not by any means playable, this sense of terraining refers to the artistic aspect.

No photoshopping has been administered, the screenshots appear exactly as they appear in-game.

    ~Feedback and criticism appreciated~

    In order of appearance:

Steampunk: My entry for the eleventh terraining contest at the hive workshop (which I won, incidentally). Looking at this in retrospective, I notice a couple of rough edges I could've tended to.

The Pit: My entry for a contest at the hive workshop called the picture. The participants were to terrain with a preset camera and compose a scenery, which frankly was a pain considering the angle.

Playmate: A surreal piece representing an abstract sense of tranquility. Cards on the table, this is my terraining ace, so to speak.

it's nothing like Unity. You may as well compare it to any game engine with a world editor for your argument.

Wasn't by any means an argument. It was simply I, informing you all about an irrelevant association of mine. No particular weight on validity.

That clarified, I do see your point. I just couldn't admit to that without a rebuttal ;)

Hehe, whose toes did I step on to get you two this passive aggressive?

When did I say I was skilled? Well, technically I did say that once, but hey I thought it was obvious that I was trying to witty.

I feel like you've misinterpreted me as a big-headed, self-proclaimed terraining jesus, when all I really did was post a semi-sarcastic input about improvisation ;)

    @Mozared: Go

    No harm done.

And yeah, I'm trying to grow accustomed to starcraft terraining since I'm a Warcraft III terrainer.
    N
o particular logic, just an occupational obligation if you will.

Mind if I upload a showcase of my Warcraft terrains?

either he is one of those conceded but skilled people, or he is just a push-over. But yeah, lets welcome the dude for what he is.

I was actually just making conversation in my own gradient way.

And in what sense of the word am I a push-over (legitimate question)? Not sure that's a term you should apply to people with 4 posts and no real confrontations to back down from yet ;)

I don't like the terrain aspect of the galaxy editor yet, get in line and prove me wrong.

I really wish there was a confetti doodad. I really wish there was...

Pish-posh, key in terraining is imporivising. If you lack a particular model, you compensate. If you lack the capacity to compensate, you pledge never to procreate.

    Quote from Zanryu1337: Go

but it fits to the weekly's topic. ;P

Is that supposed to represent a club? What's with the stiff out-of-place medieval guy?

Sort of reminded me of the unity engine ().

    Quote from Reaper872: Go

apparently a "God Game" is a game where humans have some sort of control over their environment. The people kinda look like an African tribe. You can physically shape their world to see what happens. I don't know if there will be missions or a point to doing what you do though. It looks like it would be good for awhile but it won't have crazy high re-playability if all you do is make cliffs and stuff.

"God Game" refers to the world-shaping aspect of the game, simple as that. Based on the video it's no different from any other editor, side for the fact that you alter the world during the gameplay.

    Quote from ProzaicMuze: Go

I believe it's an arcade and PC game as I saw an ad for it on my 360 last night while playing some ME2.

An "arcade" game huh? In what sense? :P

Hey hello hi, I'm pretty sure it's in chronological order.

What kind of obese ass would knowingly endure 418 minutes of Jar Jar Binks and other profanities only to kick the bucket seconds before the binary sunset scene? :P
