    @BorgDragon: Go @DrSuperEvil: Go

Okay thanks that answers the questions about the inconsistencies I was seeing.

What about applying an imported DDS file as a texture on a splat via triggers during runtime? Is this possible or do I need to use 3ds Max, creating a whole new model and importing that?

posted a message on ISO Modeler / Artist to create Ground Decals

I would like to improve PeepMode http://forums.sc2mapster.com/player-zone/map-feedback/21851-peepmode-new-maps-new-features-new-video/ by allowing players to "purchase" and then place large decals on the ground within their base. It sounds like re-skinning a Splat is the best way to go. Although I have tried to accomplish this myself without using any external tools like 3ds Max, I have so far failed. If anyone has any knowledge of or experience with re-skinning a Splat using only an imported DDS file and Triggers/Data, please let me know!

I am also seeking an artist to make original decals that would most likely be monochromatic and iconographic.

posted a message on [Data, Actor] [Events + Message] Texture Select By ID

I've tried to follow this tutorial and even within the first few lines I'm seeing drastic inconsistencies with the content of my copy of the editor. I cannot find a model called "Prison Zealot" for example. Also, my Model Data fields are seemingly different than what is described in this tutorial as well. Either I'm missing something obvious or there is a mismatch between my editor content and this tutorial.

Since there are so many knowledgeable people in here, could someone possibly whip up a basic map that shows me how I can change a Splat texture on the fly (via Triggers)? I understand that I would need to prepare the Textures (via imported DDS files, if possible) on the Model first so I could use Texture Select By Id (via Actor Message)...but how that is done I currently cannot solve...I don't want to have to use an external program like 3ds Max. I'd appreciate any help I can get on this.

Okay....I just think the best way to achieve great things is (1) by working together and sharing knowledge and (2) by building people up, not by insinuating that they are inferior. I don't mean to blow this out of proportion because I think overall you've shared a lot of knowledge I've found helpful and I thank you for that. Just maybe chill with the tone a bit plz ... we're all in this together and after all it's a game that we all enjoy :)

Sorry for opening such an old thread but I am trying to place custom decals on the ground (from custom DDS images). Were you successful in getting your "terrain paint" to work? If so, can you provide a quick run-down of how to do it?

    Thank you for the feedback.

    - I don't know what you mean by "player's name will stay on the map". Can you clarify? Perhaps their text tag over the avatar's head doesn't disappear when a match starts?? I have seen this before but thought I fixed it...

    - Are you sure that a match player isn't exiting the game during the Match Loading (VS) screen? That will, of course, cause a draw immediately upon match start.

    - When you zoom out you get farther away from the action and the sound is basically too far away to hear. This is an aspect of the SC2 engine that I probably cannot change and actually wouldn't feel comfortable changing even if I could.

    - There is a voting option to turn off camera zooming in the Options menu if lag occurs.

    - It can be difficult to get my hands on GSL maps...I have not yet contacted all authors and wouldn't publish maps without author's permission. Currently only Bel'Shir Beach is available (July 2011 version thanks to LSPrime).

    - Please PM me so we can line up a time for me to check out these issues first-hand. Thanks! :)

Thanks for your info...I will take a similar approach.

A little feedback: I think your definition of "common sense" is different than most of the English speaking world. From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/common+sense: "sound practical judgment that is independent of specialized knowledge, training, or the like; normal native intelligence." I believe just about anything posted on sc2mapster.com that is appropriate for this site is, by definition, specialized knowledge and therefore not fitting in the normal definition of that phrase. I appreciate the info you provide, but I don't appreciate the pretentious attitude you seem to convey in many of your posts.

Well I tried this and installed EU version on same machine that I have my NA game installed and it wouldn't work. I contacted Blizzard and they said this wasn't possible and that I should ask for a refund on my EU purchase. I sent them a nasty note about how stupid this is, but obviously they are not about to change this policy. So do I now need to install each game client on its own device/OS to get this to work? I'm not sure if http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/editor-bugs-and-feedback/6780-info-changing-your-editors-region-server/ still works, but I know that simply buying new copies and trying to use multiple regions from same machine is not allowed by Blizzard policy.

I'm an old dude, apparently. I'm 30. Been programming since I was 11. Professionally for 10 years for a government contractor. I write web apps in PHP and Ruby on Rails. I'm also an active musician. Was a big fan of SC in undergrad (1998-2001) and now that I cut loose from a destructive relationship, I have some time that I've decided to put toward SC2 modding. Much more fun than writing data-centric business apps, although the pay is a lot worse. :)

I am actively developing the mod and will continue to do so for several months. During that time, its status will remain "closed". However, I may release it as "open source" in the future. For now I'd prefer to incorporate user feedback and try to create consistency across servers, etc. If you have any specific requests for maps, please let me know.

Sometimes nested For loops are simply the tool required for the job. I agree you shouldn't try to do nested loops when it's not called for, but many times in my professional programming career it has most certainly been the best option and I do it all the time. There seems to be some irrational fear of nested For loops among users of this site...It used to be an issue in Galaxy but Blizzard fixed this months ago.
