posted a message on Trick to have a custom preview picture for a melee map

I figured how to have a your own preview picture for your melee map to be shown in the map list and in the loading screen instead of the default picture. I believe you're not supposed to have one for a melee map so it may be corrected in the next patches. So here's how to do it :

First export your map picture from Data/Export Map Image... and open the tga file in Photoshop or a program like that, or make a new one from scratch. Enhance the colors, contrast, do whatever you want.

It has to be square, mine was 256x256 but you can have it higher. The smaller it is the faster it will appear in the game. I tried with non-square pictures but it didn't show in Starcraft 2, splash screens work but apparently not preview pictures. I saved it to uncompressed 32 bits with no alpha channel, but other settings may work.

In the galaxy editor go to Modules/Import, right-click the empty area and Import files... Then Browse your Starcraft 2 directory and uncheck everything except your tga file.

Save your map, you need to save or you won't be able to see your picture.

Close the Import window and go to Map/Map Info... in Preview Image - Small put Custom Image and Browse your picture. It won't appear if you didn't save your project. Preview Image - Large select your picture too. Click Ok, your map status will go from Melee to Custom.

Now the trick is to go back to Map/Map Info... and put Map Image for both Preview Images and click ok. The map status will go back to Melee. Go back to Map/Map Info... and put Custom Image to both and don't change the path to your picture.

Now if you click Ok the map status will remain Melee. If you publish your map you'll be able to see your preview picture in the game instead of the default one.

This doesn't seem to work every time but if you set the picture to custom then press Ok then go back and chose Map Image and press Ok sometimes it will forget to change the status to custom.

I'm not sure but once the status is melee while it shouldn't, you can do whatever you want and it will stay melee. This needs to be confirmed though.

posted a message on Publish error "Lost connection to Gateway"

I finally managed to upload my maps from a different computer on the same internet connection. It was a fresh install and in the battle.net settings of the map editor the new default address was enGB.logon.battle.net instead of the eu-beta.logon.battle.net on my old install. But I put that address in my old install and it's still not working on this computer.

So I don't really know what to say to help you except the problem is from the editor and not from the map. The only differences between the 2 installs is the old one is on xp and installed on h:\ instead of c:\, while the new install was on windows 7 on c:\

I hope Blizzard fixes the problem so I can publish my map from the same computer I make maps.

I even tried to create a blank map, just change its name and publish it and there's the same error. I have a very good connection and my firewall doesn't block anything so I wonder how people manage to publish their map now.

posted a message on Publish error "Lost connection to Gateway"

I've been having this error since patch 14, and patch 15 didn't fix it. I have 2 melee maps that I was able to update but now I can't update them because of this error. I tried changing a lot of settings but nothing worked. If I change the number of players, the map starts uploading to 80% but then it fails with that error. If I try to upload twice in a row without changing anything it stops at 0%

My 2 maps are melee so there's no scripting or wierd things. I even tried to copy paste the terrain, doodads, minerals... I remade the no pathing layer but still I have the same error and I can't update my map. Before the maps were uploading, and the only thing I did was moving vespene geiser and change a bit the nopathing and now it won't upload.

When I google "Lost connection to gateway" stacraft in google there's a thread on sc2mapster but it seems to have been deleted and it's not in the cache anymore so I can't read what's in.

If anyone knows how to fix this error eventually I would be able to upload my maps. In patch 13 my maps were uploaded even if I wasn't able to update them but now they're not on battle.net anymore and I can't upload them to the server.

edit : I tried to publish the version of the maps that were able to publish and I'm not able to publish them anymore. I'm getting Failed when it's Transmitting File archive with the reason lost connection to gateway. Sometimes it fails at Constructing header file too.
