Luckily we here at mapster are largely immune to the maddening influence of the public's delusions.
Blizzard's official forums are scary. Picture yourself deep, gloomy tunnels. Now add a dim light for every mile, and as you happen to find one and enjoy it for the warm it provides, watch for the hordes of trolls that lurk to shut it down. It illustrates how are received the (rare) good posts.
University of Montreal ; will teach French in Highshool. Which boggles everyone around me, 'cause I invest most of my free time into learning computer applications instead of reading and writing more. But I have a plan. A secret, wonderful plan that I treasure. And it's all mine.
Also, if anyone ever needs a text translated (EN <-> FR), feel free to ask. I'll be glad to help. =)
When you reinstalled, have you repatched the game all the way to p16 ? Because my editor started crashing with p15, p16 didn't fix it, and I had to reinstall the game and stop the patching process before p15 to make it work again. I'm not sure what tweaks patches 15/16 introduce in the Galaxy Editor, but surely a working editor is better than an updated-yet-not-working editor. ;)
To be honest, I would be up for it if I had more time. Helas, all the work surrounding my website is draining me, and the last thing I need at the moment is to have more modeling on my hands. X.X
Hehe. I did download the trial version, too, specifically for using the .m3 exporter. I got the program in may as well, however I don't recall anything really going wrong. Have you looked at :
If you have problems using the editor since patch 14 or 15, you can try reinstalling the game and patching up to patch 10-13. It's not optimal because there have been changes obviously, but until it gets officially fixed, you can still work on a myriad of things that never get enough attention. =)
I came asking for help because it really bugs me. Earlier this week, I could open the Galaxy Editor and work within it just fine. Then Patch 15 came, which I installed without any problems... until I figured the Editor would just crash when I tried loading it through the .exe file. ''No big deal'', I told myself, as I procedeed to reinstall and repatch the game — these things happen. And it worked! Except I later figured the Previewer now crashes. X.X
I browsed and seeked through Blizzard's forums, even Sc2Mapster topics, I looked at kitten videos... and I can't find an answer. Normally, it wouldn't bother me too much, I could afford to wait for a fix. Except I can't, not at this time ; I'm too dependant on the Previewer for a project of mine and my timeframe is tight. (Soon™ won't cut it.)
And that's about it. If anyone have an idea on how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate any help.
Edit: Today's patch didn't fix it either. So I reinstalled the game once again, but I stopped the patching process at the first version including the editor. And it finally works again! Feel free to disregard/delete this thread. =)
I know it's been almost two weeks. Have been busy doing, making... things, and now that I have time, I wanted to thank you for your feedback.
Shortly after I installed 3ds Max, I followed your advice. And it works. What I import from Maya remains the same and it makes me one happy dwarf. Due to time constraints, however, I didn't give the .m3 exporter a shot yet. I'll be sure to come back if I encounter any problem related to that (in the devoted topic) or if I just wanna drop by to discuss any matter. Or talk beer.
As a Maya user, I wonder if any to-.m3 export plug-in will be made available? I see people mentionning 3ds max left and right, which I could have access to (student privileges 4tw) but I would really rather work with Maya since I feel confortable with it.
Does anyone has a clue about the matter? I mean, as a general tendency, does Maya receive some of the love his brother gets?

Wish you luck, though!

I really wish I could help you further. =/
