I see. Well, I've really only got one more question, for now. I talked to you on the IRC last night a bit, but I just felt really stupid. Do you have any links to something explaining how to use the MPQ files? I just don't get it. The issue I was having was any time I tried to use the MPQ editor, it said Access is Denied. I have the UAC completely disabled (Windows 7) and all that.

That's not what I meant, although I do agree with you guys that credit was too easily stolen. I guess hacked was a strong word. Most maps that I called "hacked" were those that seemed to break or change the basic gameplay. Like stacking cannons with the lights on/off trick or terrain squares without borders. I guess these were all made with those 3rd party editors and were not "hacked" so much as made differently, but that always looked to me like a bad thing rather than alternative. Some of my favorite non-hacked maps were things like the Day at School map that (at least as far as I could tell) didn't use a 3rd party editor, but were still incredibly fun. I intend to try to remake that one if I can. I may have that map name wrong. I'd have to dig through some old files to try to find it.

I honestly don't know if it rolls, I didn't make it. The guy who did, though, works at Lego and could probably make a rolling model if so inclined. I've been looking at it and thinking about trying to build it but I don't have my old legos at all.

And I must admit, I'm a total newb at map making. I tried my hand at a bit in the first starcraft, but I was discouraged by the fact that by the time I started playing, most maps were hacked, especially my favorites like cannon defense and other stacking games.

Ahh, well, unless they announce the project more publicly I may just do it on my own. Time to find a good database for SC1 info!

So the mindset of the MWE community is more about learning and less about hacking? I may just get into it then. And do you have a link to the Project Revolution team's website, if they have one?

    Howdy!

I'm not much of a programmer or map maker aside from very casual stuff, but I'm looking at getting into the mapmaking community. I found this site and thought I'd join up. My two big goals are getting in on the initial SC1 remake project and recreating some of my favorite UMS maps on my own or in a team. I'm not sure I want to dive into the milky way editor quite yet, as I really want to see what the official editor will offer. Mostly because I'm very interested in the built-in sharing support the developers have said they hope to put in.

I'd really like it if someone could direct me to any current groups working on a SC1 remake.
