This map's got enough spots for at least 10-15 good boss fights.

Definitely. This is some amazing work. I actually caught myself just listening to your soundcloud as a playlist while I edited this afternoon, lol.

posted a message on Terrain artist available for work.

    Hey everyone,

Well, the title just about sums it up. I'm a terrain artist, and I am available to help make the terrain and environment of your maps become what you imagined and then some. I've got experience working with a couple map owners, and have had nothing but positive feedback from each project. Below are some overview screenshots of some of my work for any who might be interested to see what I can do, or maybe just always curious to see another's creation. I have pretty quick turn around times on maps (usually within a week, sometimes two; depends on the size and map owner's feedback), and am pretty flexible to make sure I can be contacted about projects for a wide range of schedules. In fact, I would very much prefer an open line of communication throughout the project as I'll need frequent feedback, sometimes even providing you with multiple options on certain portions of the map to see which styles you prefer most for your map.

I do not charge, but I do accept (and very much encourage!) any donations if you feel the map deserves it at the end.

If anyone has questions, or would like to see additional screenshots or more map examples (mostly works in progress), or is interested in having me design any terrain, please feel free to PM me and we can go from there. I'd rather keep things private.

If you have immediate feedback for any of the screenshots below, I'd love to hear about it. Please, PM me with your feedback, and I'll read it and probably follow up with you on it if it's not troll material. Just, please do not post any feedback for the screenshots directly into this thread. Thanks! :)

I suppose your bolded quote deserves that response. In this case, I was told that by the person I'm developing a map for right now. Moot point, but I wanted to clarify against the idea that "Mommy says I'm beautiful..." is where I fit with that. I admit, I chuckled when I read it and facepalmed.

Nonetheless, thank you for the answers! I've got experience and a small portfolio of SC2 maps (Unfortunately, I lost all my Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and Unreal Tournament map files from a hard drive failure a few years back), but I wanted to get some general information before I actually tried to advertise myself for a team.

Would love additional feedback if anyone else had thoughts! :)

posted a message on Paid terrain artist questions.

    Hey everyone!

I'm currently looking at the possibilities that being a full-time terrain artist could afford me. I have a lot of history around developing terrain, and I've been told that my artistic talent for terrain design is fantastic and I've got a moderate amount of knowledge around basic data editing in the galaxy editor. I'm currently working with someone on a map that's not a paid position, but the reality that I could turn this into a full-time or part-time source of income has been brought to my attention. That being said, I have a few general questions regarding the possibility of finding work doing this on a team as a paid artist.

    1. What do terrain artist positions usually offer financially? I've seen financial offers for data editors, UI creators, ability creators and the like, but not much in the way of terrain artists specifically.
    2. Are terrain artists generally expected to have other skill sets? I know it's always a good idea to be able to offer as much as possible to a team, but are teams typically trying to combine terrain design with another role in the team?
    3. What time constraints are terrain artists typically given?
    4. What are teams typically looking for when hiring a terrain artist?

I really like the desert theme, Tel. I'm gonna have to toy around with that idea.

What else would you do to the paths? I do agree that they look a bit bland. Maybe try to mesh some sand texture in towards the center of it to give it more detail...

Yeah, it's totally the campaign idea, but I absolutely loved it when I saw it. I knew I had to try it for myself. :D

EDIT: Also, there's something ironically satisfying about glancing back and forth between Mozared's avatar image and mine...

One thing you could do to break the monotony is to split up the city into levels and think of different themes for each level. You could then vary the building model types to fit different city themes (tha hood, corporate/military district, mall/shopping area, park district, etc). That could let you use just about any mix of doodads and colors your heart could find use for.

EDIT: Another way to really break the monotony of the buildings without changing the buildings themselves would be to add lots of little flavor to the streets and alleys. Put a dumpster in one, a garbage can on fire in the next one, some tents for homeless people, etc. The parking lot was pretty neat.

posted a message on Placing a corpse unit.

Hey all, I'm making a campaign style map, and I want the player to discover the corpse of Zurvan while playing the map. However, in the SC2 editor, when I place the Zurvan unit, I can't find any of his health properties. I'd prefer for the unit to start out dead, and not use a trigger to do it once the game starts, but I understand there may be limitations.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)
