posted a message on Velocity - SC2 Arcade Idea

Hello, Republic of SC2Mapster. I am CptTori and I have recently joined today. Right now, I am in peril. Since I am only knowledgeable of Python Programming, I don't think I can produce such a fast-paced game in a few weeks or months. Thus, I am requesting assistance for my idea. I'll provide details of the Starcraft II map I want to create.

    Velocity

I was so inspired by the map "Speedcraft" and the game "Photon Cycles" that I am thinking of creating a racing map myself. Yes, It is a racing map, which is probably lame, but I want to produce it. I've decided to name the map "Velocity" since the word means "The speed of something in a given direction." (Provided by Google)

I'm not saying you are to dumb to know that, though. It was merely just in case you didn't know what it meant.

Anyways, this is one of the greatest ambitions I had for a long time. I even have it on my bucket list.

    CptTori's Bucket List

    1. Write/Publish a Novel (In Progress)
    2. Become well-known on DeviantArt (In Progress)
    3. Master Protoss Race (In Progress)
    4. Publish a GOOD SC2 Map
    5. Master Role-playing (In Progress)

Anyway, It's time to go into details about the map. Now, please don't become a grammar nazi and correct my grammar. I am only thirteen years, but you know what they say:

"Age is just a number." - Joan Collins

Although this is true, I am still in school.

    Velocity: Concept

Velocity was configured and conjured to be a racing game with a fast-paced tempo. Designed as a racing game, the map is going to include some rather "deviant" concepts and Technics. Yes, I do know what deviant means. Some features include: Voting on maps for game-play; obstacles and contraptions; different classes and modifications of vehicles; vehicle-to-vehicle combat; etc.

For everyone's sake, I am adding various maps with different effects on various players in order to make things interesting. I will also make a custom story-line that involves involvement of the SC2 Races.

I thought I should have a tagline for the game. I was thinking about a tagline to summarize the whole concept, like:

"As Fast as Lighting" or "Momentum is Key"

    Velocity: Feature

Not only would I add course, but I will add descriptions to them. When you click a button, You can explore the different maps and find info about them, as well as a cinematic overview. You can also look at the classes and modifications of the vehicles. The vehicles will have stats, such as: speed; control; acceleration; endurance; etc. This will also include benefits and descriptions of the modifications and classes.

That will be available in a GUI Selection called "Encyclopedia". Also you are able to customize your vehicle by going to the workshop (Available in Lobby). Although, you'll need gold to level up your vehicle. I want to implant a save system as well so you don't have to do things again. The maps with have interesting designs, appearances, and obstacles. I'll use an iconic course as an example. (Spoilers Beyond this Point)

    Map: Conduit 41

“Formerly built for the purpose of velocity practices and exercises used for testing Ruggies, This industrial test course was turned into an epic raceway for stunt devils and courageous automobilists. Aspects of design of the structure, as well as miscellaneous functions within the course, have been proven to be advantages and shortcuts for the competitors.”

This is the iconic Arena of the game. A complex, yet convenient, design is what makes this map a bit "unique" compare to the others. What is in this map? Well, there are many obstacles, secret pathways, functions, and shortcuts for the competitors. The theme of the arena is supposed to be: Mechanical; Holographic. There are multiple platforms and obstacles. One type of platform includes: A higher and lower platform continuing to a point where the platforms merge into one. Obstacles include: Stunning hazards, Pits, Disappearing/Reappearing Platforms.

Here is another map that is similar:

    Municipal Channel

"The competition has reached the municipal expanse of Metropolis. This is a highway-based course goes throughout the city, with shortcuts leading into urban sprawls and structures galore. Also, tunnels and secret passage ways are all around. Be weary. There are wretched drivers and urban threats on the track."

This is an immense, yet simple, urban themed map. The most noticeable, most annoying threat: The mediocre drivers. The course of the map is generally straight with curves that might be unnoticeable. Luckily, the avenue will eventually lead to the central metropolis, where civilians will run in terror as you crash through every thing like a wrecking ball.

    Here is my personal favorite:

    Warfare Zone

"A track made to mimic the tragedies of war. Subterranean tunnels and trenches, booby traps, and hazardous elements are what made this map distinguishable. The realistic havoc caused by shooting and bombarding is the main reason why this course is epic, yet idiotic and treacherous. As you race, you can take a glimpse at the cinematic terror."

This is a rather violent map consisting of a large amount of hazards and obstacles. Although there are many obstacles, there are also useful detours to hide from warfare. The course would first start in a tunnel and continue onward to the bombing zone. There, you are vulnerable to missiles and marines. The competitors are to continue from there to the interior a subterranean bunker, and soon going out in the open. Luckily, there wouldn't be that many hazards there. You would continue until you get to the various tunnels with rolling hills.

    (Spoilers discontinued)

    Velocity: Classes & Mods

    Classes

Now that we have that settle, let's focus on the classes of the vehicles. I have came up with only one class for the vehicles. Classes are supposed to set up a base for your vehicle, as well as allowing abilities. The one class I came up with was the MV5 "Ruggy" which was supposed to resemble a "crawling beetle" concept. Ruggies are renowned for their endurance and velocity. An ability of theirs is "Stampede" which is a technique that is like the zealot's ability "Charge". With the "Stampede" ability, you are able to speed through the course with a speed increased by 1.5. A disadvantage of the Ruggies is that their control level is only 2, and their attacks are weak.

    Modifications

Modifications are to enhance the capability of the vehicles. They are most important to the vehicles and, unlike the vehicles themselves, they are able to be swapped and replaced. Also, you can unlocked certain ones by leveling up. Each class has its own set of modifications. Although, I only came up with 3 modifications.

    RM2 Commonstrong Carapace (Defensive)

This is an installation for the vehicle's armor. A Model Shell, made by Commonstrong Industries, is a hardened piece of armory that is supposed to boost the Ruggy's endurance by 2.5 and health by 1.5. This is a prototype. The armor might cause the Ruggy's speed to decrease by 2.

    (Unlocked at L2)

    RM5 Commonstrong Boltshell (Offensive)

Commonstrong also produced the Boltshell Missile. This is made to enhance the power of a ranged attack caused by the Ruggies. By enhancing the factor, Commonstrong was able to increase the Damage by 2.5 and Attack Rate by 1! Unfortunately, the Boltshell would decrease the velocity of the Ruggy by 1.

    (Unlocked at L2

    LMP Genesis Factor X2 (Accelerator)

With an outstanding design, the LMP Genesis Factor, built by a generic company, had made Ruggy Control simple. With this enhancement, the control of a Ruggy increases by 2 while Velocity increases by 3. Unfortunately, the Damage decreases by 3 due to errors concerning the unintentional interference with the Ruggy's Left Underbelly Turbine.

    Velocity: Current Position

I am currently Novice experienced with Python, but I don't know how to script for SC2. I think that I might need to use functions and variables in order to make a game like this. Luckily, scripting looks a bit easy. It's the confusion of the scripting and bugs that concerns me. I am going to need help with this.

I'm asking the republic to help me script. I'll also need a tutorial for modelling if possible.

    Velocity: Suggestions

Do you like the idea or do you hate it? Would you like to give a suggestion about how to make the game better? Speak up! I want to hear your thoughts about the project I came up with. Allow me to hear you loud and clear.

Also, help me get this project started. I don't know what funds would do, so I am not asking for donations. I am just asking for aid. Give me a tutorial, tip, or something else so I can build my game.
