Yeah, zeedu, you got it; that's exactly what I mean. Using my map as an example, even if you were to hack your Total TD rank via trigger, the security triggers on the real map would catch the imbalance of X, Y, Z as soon as you enter a real game.

The point is not to make a bank "hack-proof," of course, it is simply to deter would-be bank hackers from a simple signature decoder download + text edit.

Actually, I like to sucker people into thinking the bank is unprotected, then they try and it announces their attempt in game. If someone gets a screen of that, I can always set their ID to 0 rating directly. :)

    Absolutely wrong.

    1) Download your map. 2) Hack it and open it in the editor. 3) Add a trigger for whatever reward you want. 4) Publish and play on battle.net.

Your map file itself is not safe, so no amount of messing with the bank files is going to help.

Even if you hack the map + republish under a different name; 99% of people are going to play the original anyway.

Also there is no advantage to hacking a bank file via triggers rather than text edit; either the aspiring bank hacker figures out the bank or he doesn't.

I think you if put everyone of their own team and then give them a computer ally it will make the ally chat default. It simply goes to all as default if they dont have an ally to talk to. Pretty sure everyone can have the same ally computer say player 14 and continue being a FFA.

Brilliant, I will try that. Thanks.

posted a message on Player #, parties, and ally chat

    Two different questions here.

Firstly, has anyone else noticed differences in the Player #s depending on whether you join an Arcade game solo or as a party. For example, if I start a lobby, then I am Player 1, then the next person who joins is Player 2 and so on. BUT if I play as party with a friend, I will be Player 1 as party leader, and he will be Player 3. I have seen this happen on numerous maps. It even goofs some triggers to thinking that there is a ghost-of-player-2 playing the game. Strangely, in the above example, most triggers will see the partied player as Player 3, but a couple commands will see the player as Player 2. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a work around to this inconvenience?

Also, secondly, with regards to ally chat, is there a way to make the game default to ally chat without having two teams in the lobby. I would love to have a lobby look like an FFA lobby where players choose their teams/positions via dropdown menu, but whenever I do this, bnet defaults to "all chat" in game, which is a nuisance.

You can also make your bank file/security triggers a series of math formulas and fake labels. Then just make it so if one thing is out of place, the player is marked as a bank hacker. I do this for my rank system in Total TD, but like others have said, it is impossible to make security 100% effective, especially when files are saved locally.

posted a message on Let's read StarCraft II Custom Game Acceptable Use Policy

It seems this policy is just a CYA for Blizzard with respect to limiting pissing off their arcade community. On that note, it is a sad attempt because everyone here knows that Blizz does whatever Blizz wants at the end of the day.

I, personally, make an effort to follow this policy. I had originally intended to ban bank hackers (or attempted bank hackers) from my map, but Necro brought this policy to my attention. Now, I will simply limit their in-game rank/rating without denying them access to the game.

    Hey everyone,

I just wanted to get the word out that I am doing a Total TD Rank-Race Tournament until August 18th. It is easy to participate because it uses the map's built-in ranking system; play Total TD and win to boost your rating. There will be separate in-game trophies for individual and clan winners.

See the official thread here: http://www.sc2gump.com/threads/8146-Announcement-Total-TD-Rank-Race-Tournament!?p=12874#post12874

I have to say this Mapster community is awesome.

Specific, special thanks to KorvinGump for making a forum for Total TD right at his website: www.sc2gump.com

Also, huge thanks to everyone who showed up to play a few games last Friday. That was epic.

Why "good and addictive"? Isn't "addictive" enough?

Will be offering free coffee/beer/cigarettes when you play Total TD!

    jk :)

    EDIT: response to Eiviyn:

More is generally not needed, because to get from page 2 to page 1, your map needs mass appeal. Bottom rank page 2 requires about 60 hours played per day. Bottom rank page 1 requires 1500.

Getting it to page 2 is about as far as you can take it alone, and is generally all you need in terms of visibility. If your map is good and addictive, it'll hit page 1.

Thanks for the help, Eiviyn. Just wanted an idea of how it works, and yes, I have no intention of trying to boost to page 1. As you say, if it is popular from page 2, it will get there. I just wanted a fair shake at the non-forum/non-channel crowd, which is, arguably, the biggest group of people.

Run it overnight on a free PC and you'll get to page 2 pretty easily, which is enough of a platform to get started.

So, I did my launch night. It was quite successful. Now this boosting thing to get to page 2. Are there any checks and balances for the creator doing it? Should I do it on a trial account by dumping the trial account in the game? Should I get a friend to do it?

Anyone have experience/insight with manipulating the stupid arcade system? :)

Don't pause. Just disable any afk detection, defeat triggers (make them just stop the game, rather than kick the losing players) that you might have added, and leave the game running on the lowest graphics settings.

Ah, I might try that as well. I could just make an admin chat command to disable them in-game.

    Thanks.

Hmmm never thought of that. So just go into a game and pause?

All the same, still having my Friday evening launch party. :)

posted a message on Releasing New TD Map

    Greetings,

I am releasing a new TD map to the Arcade this Friday. It is called Total TD (Total Tower Defense). It is a competitive, party-themed TD. Long story short, I am looking for the community's help in defeating Blizzard's arcade "most played" system on the first day. That might actually give my map a chance (and that's all I want) to be played by the multitude of arcade players that never talk on forums or in the game channels. I have amassed a group of friends and testers to play a lot of Total TD games this Friday afternoon/evening, but I want to invite as many people as possible to at least try a game. So, if you are on SC2 this Friday, please try playing a game of Total TD in Arcade. Thanks.

My Showcase Post @ Bnet forums: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/9573547328

P.S. My actual Bnet name is Vaathen ... someone managed to jack my name here at Mapster. :(
