We're also developing some new scenery for the map to move as far as possible away from sc2's futuristic aesthetics. Our latest addition is the classic hay cart!
We're organising a new push with this project and we're keen to get some talented modelers and animators on-board. Reckon you have the skills and would like to get involved? Just drop us a message here in this thread or join us on our official forums over at:
Not too good at texture-work, but great at modeling? Thats not a problem! I'll be on call throughout the week to create high-quality textures for anything you create :)
Projects such as these are a great way to build up your portfolio for future employers, especially if FoG grows to be a well-known and loved entity :)
I'd like to take the time to introduce you to another of my off-site projects :P
In essence, I'm attempting to create a News Portal website for in-production games and would love to get some feedback from some avid gamers such as yourselves. Perhaps you have an idea for a new feature, or just some feedback on the sites UI etc. Whatever comes to mind! Sc2mapster seemed the logical place to find some testers as most of you guys are sc2 / blizzard fans like myself :)
If your interested in testing / shaping this in-production gaming community, don't hesitate to join us at http://www.engamer.net
(I figured this thread would be ok to post as the site is related to sc2, but is not a competitor of sc2mapster by any means. However! I totally understand if you guys are against this sort of thing so don't hesitate to remove this post if thats the case.)
I guess its fair to say we are going to make the map one step at a time :) Early versions will undoubtedly rely on a large amount of available sc2 models and skins.
Further down the development line its likely that we will customise the game further by introducing custom terrain skins, but thats for another day ;)
I'd love to news it once you guys get a video up. Any ETA on that?
A gameplay video? :) We need to sort out the unit models first so it will probably be a few weeks / months before we have something playable ;) But we're working on it!
Looks neat. Hope this doesn't end up abandoned like most other major projects....
If I had more spare time I'd probably help out a bit with custom models.
We're certainly on the lookout for talented modelers to join our ranks :) We've got a few units in production, but we're short of people to make some heroes ;)

A new Desert Strike called "Desert Strike 1338" map recently appeared on EU servers, and I was hoping to get in touch with the author as I had a few questions :)
I was just wondering if anyone perhaps knew an email address for the author Sylon, or an official website for the map? Unfortunately, the author hasn't posted any contact details on the map and I've been unable to find anything on the olde Google Search :)
I have to agree that the Monarchy don't really serve a useful purpose in this modern age. That said, I still love the fact that we have one :)
The united kingdom has become very multi-cultural over the last few decades and the general culture is becoming less and less "British". The monarchy stand as a symbol that we are still British and thats something I never hope to lose, even if it means paying a bit in taxes every year :)
The monarchy is just one of those iconic features that every country has. America have their declaration of independence, we have our monarchy :)
Next in-line for the throne is Prince Charles, the Queen's eldest son. However, its possible he may choose not to be king due to his age and standing, in which case it will go straight to Prince William :)
Harry would become king if William died with no children to succeed him :D
Was thinking more along the lines of a .sc2mod file than an actual map :) That way, only one location would be updated and several maps could query the one source :P
I've spent some time pondering the question of how to get the current time and store it as a variable at map start. Such functionality could pave the way for features such as limited ban periods, custom achievement earned dates, Time since last play data etc.
As it turns out, the functionality doesn't exist in the galaxy editor, however, I'd like to propose an alternative solution. As I understand it, Mod files can be published to contain a lot of preset data. What if someone were to create a program that automatically saves the current time within a mod file then publishes the mod, perhaps once every 10 minutes or every hour?
Maps could query the mod file and get the current time on map-start. A timer could then be used in-game to detect the game-finish time.
Now, I'm rather inexperienced in program development so I've no idea if this solution is viable. I'd like to hear some second opinions on this idea :)

Yea, from what I can see its a custom build :)
If you have lots of free days every week, you could probably knock up a fairly decent forum in about 4-6 weeks.
Then ofc, you have to speed an infinite number of years fixing all the security issues and bugs :D

Been doing some more work on this tonight :) Here's a more updated WIP

Who wants to see one of our new units in-production? Hes a work in progress without his normal and specular maps yet :)

We've developed them all from scratch within our team :) A user named Sourc[e]x developed the models and I textured them :)
A gameplay video? :) We need to sort out the unit models first so it will probably be a few weeks / months before we have something playable ;) But we're working on it!

I wasn't aware that could be done from in-game :O But then again, I don't really know all that much about the sc2 editor yet ;)
