OK so those are actually the right files. I tried replacing the names like you said, but when I loaded it into the map the model doesn't load at all.

    @DrSuperEvil: Go

Thank you. I feel stupid now, I should know to cycle through the slots.

    Edit: [5/7/2013 10:23:34 PM] Warning: USER: [ e 7] CActorUnit[COMMANDER] COMMANDER Assets\Units\Terran\Marine\Marine.m3; Could not find texture with id COMMANDER_diffuse and expression <None>

I've checked, the texture is uploaded.

Edit: The issue is moot, I've figured another way to do it. As always, thanks for the help.

Tint and team color don't work for my plot, and decals don't show up in the cutscene editor. Decals would've been my first choice.

So when I copy/open the marine file, the only texture paths I find are things like

    Assets/Textures/Marine_Normal_Blood.dds Assets/Textures/Marine_Specular_Blood.dds

None of the normal textures that apply to the marine. Maybe I need to use a different text editor?

I need to know how to make some very simple skin variations. I can't use Texture Select By ID because I need it to show up in the cutscene editor, which is how I'm recording videos.

I need a way to differentiate important characters. Very simple things like rank insignia on the shoulders or a small design on the chest/helmet. I can't just replace the textures obviously, so I need a model with the changes made already.

Basically, I either need someone to help me make a few (3-5) quick skins or walk me through the process so that I can do it myself. I would prefer to learn how to do all this stuff but 3DSMax is difficult and daunting.

Anyone know where I'm going wrong here? I'm trying to test out replacing a texture for a duplicate marine unit. I need it to be view-able in the editor. I've done texture replacing before, spent a lot of time on a Thor reskin, for some reason this isn't working. Right now I'm trying to find out how to make simple adjustments to a marine (like add rank insignia to his shoulders).

    The unit is called COMMANDER.

What did you do for that picture?

I really wish I could just figure out how to replace a texture so it shows up in the editor. It seems kind of ridiculous that it would be so complicated. I want to be able to draw ranks on their shoulders and draw little designs. If I could use decals in the CE I could work around that.

From Blizzard's CE Handbook pdf -

    "Actor Alias:

The alias of an actor to mimic. When this actor is created, it will look up an actor in the world with the set alias. If it finds one, it will create a new actor identically matching that actor and use that in the cutscene instead of the one defined."

What does this mean? I know actors and actor events are used for texture swapping. Is there something to this here?

Sorry, I'm really grasping at straws, but I'm having trouble finding a way to differentiate characters easily and uniquely.

Is it possible? It would help me out a lot since it would be the simplest way to differentiate some characters.

Oh wow. I wonder if something like that applies to other issues in the editor. Tank Swivel?

    Thanks for the help.

posted a message on Skyboxes in CE

Just wanted to share that you can add a skybox very easily to your cutscene. Seach in the Files tab for all the skyboxes and just double click. It automatically applies and animates in the CE.

With this, it's looking like I can record at the highest quality frame by frame using the .y4m quality and it doesn't crash or stutter.

I'll upload a test showing the skybox soon.

Thank you both for the kind words and the criticism.

I agree about the game speed, I've made some changes, but sometimes I mess with the speed in the CE in order to fit the pacing of the scene. Since that episode takes place in his "fantasy game" we didn't mind messing around with it. For the most part though, we are going to try and stick at "Faster" in the future.

Not much CE true, it's a side project. Future episodes will have more/less CE in them as well. I did the voice and in-game stuff but not the Marine. I'm working on another project that is almost 100% cutscene editor. I'm trying to fit in these MCE's on top of that. I think having the full month to prepare will be enough for me to handle.
