I feel like you should give us some more info on the type of game you want to create first and see if anyone has a good story to wrap around it. Gameplay and story can't just be shoved together in my opinion, so it'd help if you described some of the things you want to do (huge battles/small engagements? New units? new abilities?) and these things may or may not be relevant towards making a tighter plot and more cohesive game experience.

I pretty much exclusively use the CSE, is there a section for that? I imagine it would be pretty small but I could contribute a little.

I fancy myself a writer. If you can give me some basic ideas that you would like to see I will pitch you a few synopses.

posted a message on CSE - Render and Convert .y4m video

This is going to be a quick guide to recording CSE sequences and converting them to a use able format for video editing. I had a bit of difficulty finding this info at first and I don't think it's on this site so I'll write it up here.

The important conversion info can be found here: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/8197182496#2

So the CSE can render out frame by frame whatever you have in your viewport. This includes decorators, so turn them off by pressing J or Render->Show Helpers->Show Decorators.

Now would be a good time to make sure your settings are all on Extreme (file->preferences->video) and to make sure shadows are rendered (Render->Lighting->Show Shadows). Since it's rendering frame by frame, it doesn't matter if your computer can't handle those settings.

Next, you want to set your viewport size to whatever resolution you need your final product to be. View->Viewport Size->Custom

For this example I'll use 1920x1080. Don't worry if the viewport overlaps or is clipped, as long as you don't drag any of the viewport sizing it will record to the right resolution.

Now you want to hit the record button (alt+f11). Make sure the checkbox is marked for compression because otherwise you can't name the file (don't know why). Chose where you want to save it, choose the file name, then uncheck the box.

    Hit record.

Wait forever and a half depending on the length of your video. 90 seconds took me at least 25 minutes.

The output will be a .y4m video file, an audio output of any sounds you added, and a text document. I've found that I can watch the .y4m file in VLC but not in any other viewer or video editing program. That's an issue. Luckily someone at blizzard (link above) posted the fix.

I'll upload the files you need to convert the video without hassle. If you want to tweak the settings, open the .bat file in notepad and tweak. Mine is set to output to .mp4 at 60 fps in 1080.

To convert, keep both files in the same folder and drag the video you want to convert onto Movie Converter.bat. This replaces the original file.

I love NS2. Their last update finally made it able to run on my PC but I haven't had time to play it much yet.

posted a message on Marine Commander Skin

Is anyone willing to make me a texture of the marine skin with some sort of Commander's rank on his shoulders/shield? It can't be done using decals and if possible, it'd be nice to have it work with team colors.

I'm not picky as to what the insignia should be specifically, just something that conveys medium-low officer's rank, like a captain-ish level.

Also, if it's not too much extra, I could also use a super high-ranking insignia texture (fleet admiral), although that is far less important at this time.

This community can be hard to break into since it is so quiet. Less activity means less tutorials, less comprehensive knowledge. I'm amazed by what this site has to offer in that regard already.

When I first started posting, I got the help I needed, albeit curt and minimal, but as I've been around longer and learned to exercise a little patience, I've had help that goes above and beyond what would be expected from simple forum/IRC interactions. I very much appreciate that in this community because I'd have been completely stuck without it.

posted a message on Supply Capped: an SC2 Web Series - LF help

First 35 seconds completed, putting it up to test 1080 quality, added shadows, removed most decals. I'll put the next video when I hit 90 seconds and maybe I'll act some of the voices out. Once I get final takes I'll need to tweak the "talking bits".

I'll put up progress previews for the first few episodes, hopefully that will show off my style and humor and work pace and I can garner some help with the art assets.

I plan on fully producing 15 episodes before I release them so I'm not looking for anyone to be on a tight-schedule just yet.

    Thanks.

posted a message on Decals in the CE?

decal_terran01_01.dds is the default. If you take this, color the alpha channel completely black, and reupload with the same name you can make it transparent.

Still can't give individual units different decals, but this allows for customization because you can now take off the decal then skin the texture for a new model.

Update again: Apparently you can replace Raynor's Raider's but you no matter what decals I replace, default (terran) and the default texture remains with the same logo. I have no idea where it gets it from since I replaced all the ones like that.
