    Hi, with the maximum unit count for splash damage im getting inconsistent results. The range is fine but i could put it at 3 and sometimes the attack damages 1 other unit, sometimes 2. It would seem this would be pretty straight forward not sure why this is happening. Also the units are within the same distance of each other every time i test it. Maxium count does mean that if i have 10 units in range and 1 unit is hit, then it would damage 3 units out of the 10 with splash damage because thats the maximum amount allowed.

    Aside from the difficulty another good thing to know is the time it takes to make a map especially when you are learning. It could take you 2 months or more to make that from conception to release, map making in my experience always takes way longer than i anticipate at the start.

    While i dont think maps should ever cost anything, i dont agree with what many are saying that there havnt been games worth paying even a dollar for which i would imagine is what these would sell for. Ive played Mafia more than ive played games i paid 60 dollars for.

    I agree with the notion that people should be making more original maps. I mostly play origonal type games and try to make them when i make a game. Given my preference for origonal games i havnt played custom games in SC2 very much at all, while i played them quite a bit in wc3. It all goes back to the same thing really, the popularity system which was out for like 2 years killed off the map making community to the point where it couldnt recover. And even this new arcade system is still shit, becuase even though their is a games list like in wc3 no one uses it becuase it is not the most convient option, players are lazy and will always go with whats convienent.

    People get on and open up their booksmark list or just go to the top 10 and play the same games they have been playing for the past 2-3 years, never looking at the open games list (Even i do this). The way new origonal games where able to be played in wc3 was everyone was forced to look at the game list, so everyone saw these new interesting origonal games in teh list and could actrually make the decision to give them a try, giving the game an actual life. A game cant be played to any decent extent if no one ever sees it.

    Sure there is problems with people not being origonal. Many people, including people on this site basically just want to make a cookie cutter tower defense or dota map, how many of these do we really need, come up with something original.

    I really like the art assets and in some games i think they could make a huge difference. For example if you made a lotr game, sure you could use SC2 units but there would be no emersion at all and the game just wouldnt be all that playable, or Jurassic park for example. Both these games have been made for SC2 and wc3, plenty of people played them in wc3, but no one plays the very same games made for SC2 because they use SC2 models and assets, which is just ridiculous it doenst fit the theme at all.

    Of course the problem with this is the amount of time making the art assets takes. The only real viable solution is as you said to have a team, where one guy works on art assets through the entire project while another guy does everything else. However there are few qualified map makers left and very few teams. Heck most teams i see these days are jsut a group of people that have no idea how to make maps, so they formed a team hoping someone else in that team could basically teach them or do the work for them.

    So essentially i think the map community was just killed the point of no return by the popularity system, and the arcade system isnt much better. But i will also say im against the map market, these games should be free, and im saying that when my first i made was ranked #2 on battlenet overall during the peak of its popularity.

    And i also do not understnad peoples problems with finishing maps, though i know its very common. If i put it abunch of time working on a map or on anything, i would never not finish it, or i would of wasted all that time. Put in teh rest of the time and you atleast get something out of it.

    Ive almost got this down, only thing i think i really need to know is specifically what trigger hides the console? Ive found hide ui frame which can hide some parts of the console ui but not the console ui itself.

    Edit: Ive decided to go the image route as the model doesnt seem viable, so i only need help with whats written below.

    So if this ends up not being viable, what trigger command will make the console invisible, and what are these sc2 layout files, are they going to ensure that the image that serves as the new console is in proper proportion on screen, if not that is another challenge that im not quite sure how to approach, how would i do this.

    Hi, how would i go about making a custom UI/Dashboard whatever you call it, its the UI thing on the bottom of the screen. Ive seen custom dashboards in Auir Chef and Age of Knights and i want to make a simple one for my own game. How do i change out the dashboard, i dont even know where i would do that. All i think i know is its a model not an image, and again i do not know where to find where in the triggers i would acess the UI dashboard to load a different dashboard model. Also any tips about going about making the dashboard model, i assume there is a specific physical style that must be upheld for the dashboard to appear properlly or at all. Also does anyone know if a dialog item that is an image can have its transparency modified?

    Youll probably have to do this yourself, as is the case with almost everyone. It seems you dont really have any idea as far as how to do anything with the editor. If thats the case i might even advise that you teach yourself java by downloading a java IDE like eclipse and finding a learn java website. Having even a somewhat basic understanding of java (which will give you an understanding of programming in general) will make trigger editing relatively easy, which i assume would be your main challenge.

    And the object oriented nature of the language helps a little in understanding the data editor imo, but their are resources around on the data editor not to mention most of what you do in the data editor is simple. My rationale for learning a language like java is that their are great resources for learning programming java, while they arent really any that i know of for learning the tirgger "programming", and again if you know some java (or C or what have you) you can do triggers.

    Most importantly making a map, especially when you have to learn everything along the way requires alot of time and dedication, and the ability to overcome adversity. If you dont have that its not likely you'll finish it.

    Theres a guide on how to do it around here somewhere. If i where you id use the wow models and animations, but make my own LOTR textures. Guide tells you how to do everything, but it doesnt explain making cavalry, but theres some posts about that.

    Also laydown i find it strange that you would make the terrain first. For me personally anyways i do that last basically. No point in spending the time making terrain when u dont have the hard stuff u might not be able to get past out of the way, and if you make terrain there isnt alot of open room to put units down and what not to test things and look at the models u made, and map loads slower etc.

    If your looking for good LOTR models, there are many mods out there for LOTR for many games. IDK if it would be possible to do some conversions and convert the models from third age total war (a medival total war 2 mod for LOTR) which has well over 100 LOTR models into the SC2 .M3 format and use those in game. There are probabbly some helpers you would need to add and what not but it might be doable, not sure though just a thought (if anything you could base your units off of their look, they look good). If not the wow models should be good enough. I created 23 wow unit models (with team colors) for my project recently didnt take too long.

    Hi i made some custom units by duplicating a stalker, and for some reason when i click one of these duplicate units it selects all the different units i duplicated from the stalker, i cant recall ever having this problem duplicating units from a marine or something. What controls this so i can change it, thanks.
