Something very but very important if you are going to ask about the Star Tools.

Ask for which version of 3dsmax are they compiled to and if they are going to recompile them for lastest version. This was a big issue with wc3's ArtTools since they only worked for versions 4 and 5 of 3dsmax and by the time they had released the tools these versions were outdated.

why not turn some of the triggers into galaxy and reimplement them as galaxy scripts?

well, it's very likely they aren't implemented. Mainly because you could extract pointers and modify pointers with them. Blizzard is trying its best to avoid illegal type-casting.

you know you may be in trouble if blizz finds out out you are using Rare's Jet Force Genemi's theme. In case you need to change the theme you can always get indie music here (I haven't tried out msp yet though, it may be youtube's video only).

Good, maybe we can start being more liberal with images since they insist on those awful .tga files that are so ridiculously large.

how about you start using .dds instead? It's just like in wc3, you could use both .tga and .blp. However, it's your decision which to use.

Anyways, I wish they added benchmarking functions. Those are truely needed.

posted a message on Blizzard reseting popularity?

No need to get agressive here, I'm hypotheticaly speaking. Yet, have you really asked yourself why it keeps going up? You may say it's a terrible map because yours has more work and is more advanced. However, the fact is that it keeps going up.

Why not find why it goes up? I can mention many things: First: simplicity, nexus wars is a simple map and thus can be learned in no time(by first game I already knew how to play). Second, continous upgrades focused in making the game experience better rather than adding new feutures. Third, games are made to be fast and end in an avarage of 20 minutes. Finaly, the game's intensity and pressure increases as time goes by, it isn't constant.

    Quote:

I am so tired of people saying this. I have nothing against nexus wars, but frankly, its not that great. Are you seriously telling me it is better than EVERY SINGLE MAP published to battle net? Debates was better than that! And if not, then it deserved to be featured and on the top 10 at least. How are you supposed to get a map from the bottom all the way up to the top? People don't go that far into the list. The only way is to advertise outside the game, at places like sc2mapster. And thats ridiculous. Popularity needs to die >.<

I agree that debates is a way better map than nexus wars, it even is among my favorite maps. However, it's a serious map and it's focused to a specific set of players. The way it's designed intimidates many young players because of being kicked for trolling and things like that. Furthermore, The game is semi-participative since only 2 players can participate at a time, thus, the game experience is pretty passive. Among other things, is the fact that whoever has a highest score moderates the discussion. A single moderator works in real life debates but in internet, a different approuch must be made to guarantee the equality of participants. It is for these and other reasons, that I don't believe that debates should be in top 10.

Don't get me wrong, I don't support the popularity system either. However, I must be objective to the current situation and try to analize what I see rather than what I think.

Have in mind that the client always is right. If players keep playing a game, it is because that 'product' has been succesful.

Thank you for listening and exuse my horrible english. Sincerely BlinkHawk aka. BlinkBoy from THW.

if your map was so good then why nexus wars raised up again and yours went down again? Haven't you asked yourself this question?

I think this is a good thing for giving lower maps a chance to get up again and eventualy the best will always go up. It is a good way to keep things balanced while they make a new system.

The problem with debates is that, unless you play it with friends alone, is a very serious game. If you try to play saying anything stupid to backup the idea meant to make people laugh, they take you for a troll and kick your ass out :(.

    Quote from BumpInTheNight: Go

They thought they knew better about how to do the battle net custom map system and stuck to their guns up to the release. Then shortly afterwards they saw they were wrong, admitted it and stated they are now working on a better one after listening to further playerbase feedback, that's good enough for me.

Now considering the time frame of this rant being probably mere hours/days before blizzard has stated they're pushing out the 1.1 patch, I think that says a lot about its nature.

they admitted it was wrong by beta. They also said that the changes would take a few months after release.

Im clearly saying, not as small groups of people, but as a majority of people do not micro with intensity, just mass

Edit: All the examples you are giving are the type of games i want the majority of people to play like, but with a bit less intensity.

in big battles you also micro, It's not difficult if you use control groups for your units. Most typical micros in big battles are kitting, burrow attacks (roaches), casting (massive psistorms), flanking, etc. It's still the same, just that people tend to avoid it because of how things blend in 3D. In SC1 battles were easier to control because you had better visibility of what was happening.

    Quote from DarkFireDragoon: Go

That map is Macro ( Multitasking, Mainly training units and teching while defend/attacking), Micro is Using less units to kill more units or using unit group of less cost to kill a unit group of greater cost. Both taking minimum damage

i know, but multitasking is actualy what i need more. I also got tactical trainer for micro just in case.

it depends on the progamers, some are more macro oriented like Idra and others are the cheese of the cheese.

You should look for korean games of sc2, they abuse everything and harrass with anything they have.

EDIT: look at this korean match
