posted a message on Why no replies?

    Hey guys,

I've started a thread over there:
    http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/team-recruitment/20095-trigger-man-co-author-wanted/

And by some reason not getting any replies so far. How do you think guys what scares people? Does the task look overcomplicated even if I point that its actually fairly easy and not time consuming?

Also I would like to discuss what do people think about single player map. Are you interested in those, especially if it has good story in it but nothing amazing concerning triggers and such,

Any other comments are welcome also ;)

Still looking for help. It won't be hard and won't be very time consuming, but in the end we get pretty cool map. Come on now :)

It's actually really easy to do cinematics via triggers; adjusting camera angles is easy via the camera layer in the terrain editor...

Of course, but still it is not that easy and fast like I can do in 3d-application. Nevertheless, the biggest problem is lacking of real time replay.

    Kane's Nightmares

    What is it all about?

Lt. Colonel Benjamin Kane lives at small planet called New Texas. Three years ago he was commanding an army of defenders, who managed to drive out zerg invasion from this far away galaxy sector. Zerg Queen decided to not to waste time in this forgotten place and ordered the swarm to leave it. But the heart of old man feels anxiety, growing bigger and bigger with every other day. His nightmares leak into his everyday life and now he cannot tell for sure if he is still sleeping and sees a nightmare, or if this is the reality.

    Technical stuff

This is single-player RPG. I think playtime will be around 15-20 mins, including 1.5 mins of in-game cinematics.
Size: 256x256. Tileset: modified Mar Sara.
The map is not about insane trigger work or some sort of scripts, but is about small interesting story which will be shown through gameplay and 5 cinematics.

    What's already done

    1. Document which contains information about the map, its story etc.

    2. Terrain template. Now it is in a draft quality awaiting for trigger person to start working. When we will be sure that everything fits where it is now located good enough - I will take over and finish the terrain.
This is how it looks right now:

And this is the quality it will be later on (screenshots from my another map):

    3. The map will contain 5 cinematics. Each is roughly 30 seconds long. I have decided that it is pretty slow to do a cinematic in editor when you are still not 100% sure about camera angles and such. There is no real time replay, it takes a while to change cameras position etc. So I moved to Maya and made all cinematics there and saved them into video files. The trigger person will have to takes those videos and repeat all those pre-made cinematics in the editor. Fairly simple tasks since I include information like time-code and camera's focal length.
Here I am going to attach a few screenshots from one of mentioned cinematics. Keep in mind this is WIP materials which will never be seen by a player so it is made to be as simple as possible. Doesn't look any good, but in motion it is better and actually makes sense.

Trigger-man, co-author in the same time, wanted

I am looking for person who will have enough knowledge to work on all technical part: triggers, data editor, cinematics. Triggers and custom spells are fairly simple so the person doesn't have to be super-cool at them, but still not beginner. He or she should be willing to do nice single-player map, not just another so-so map.
The person should have enough time to work on a map. 2 hours at weekend is no-no. There is no deadline, but we don't want to develop such small map for monthes, right?
You should be able to contact with me using Skype or ICQ or email. Also be able to download 50-100 mb of video-files I've mentioned before.

Here's what you will have to work on:
    1. Having terrain template, story and pre-made cinematic videos should be able to creat finished map
    2. Triggers, data editor, spells, etc.
    3. Gameplay. The document I have been talking about earlier contains info about the gameplay but leaves some place for improvisation.

    Contact me by:

    • PM here
    • Skype: Arte_de_Mort
    • ICQ: 231 613 227 (anti-spam answer is "7" without quotes)
    • E-mail: theunit187@gmail dot com

Be sure to write something about yourself so I can decide who I can work with :)

    Thanks!

Na'vi couldn't really be called "fantasy". They don't have fireballs or any other kind of magic we usually see in fantasy worlds, only bows, spears and alien horses. Actually, mostly it is very easy to recreate in SC2. Marines as marines, goliaph as those big combat suits, battlecruisers and banshees as humans' fleet, etc. Anyways, we should look at SC2 from futuristic point of view. It is WC3 no more so we should create our own worlds with heavy guns and devastating nuclear bombs. This way SC2 works fine and even have more stuff to work with - protoss melee fighters and monsters - zerg. Talking about available additional models - we have alot more then we had when WC3 came out without expansion with number of new tilesets, naga and all other shit. Plus SC2 - as it seems for me now - has alot of doodads and possibilities, more then WC3 has. Talking about spells, I don't see much differense between SC2 and WC3. I mean in WC3 and in SC2 we have number of heroes with unique abilities and most of units, especially in SC2, have their own spell to play with.

I am not sure, but last few years 99% of maps and terrain contests and stuff in WC3 is made with damn big use of custom models. Not often you can find "old school" WC3 map, everyone uses custom content. So the problem with SC2 is that we don't have all this content available, mostly because models made for WC3 are very simple and don't fit quality SC2 requires.

Another things is that Futuristic maps, meh. Wc3 had more resource and it looked more interesting.

A couple years ago I was thinking that futuristic setting is boring, cold and soulless. Not like fantasy, which is - no matter how you slice it - awesome all around. But then I came across "Avatar" which totally changed my point of view to futuristic worlds. You can actually make it interesting, fun, original, awesome... whatever. You just have to look to it from different angle and should try to find whatever it is what will make your heart respond to, if you know what I mean.

And ones who have experience wont work in team.

Depends. I think of myself as a pretty experienced person who works hard on a campaign right now and the problem is that it is pretty hard to find dedicated person to work with. Some work very slow (sure I am aware of that some people have real life but still) - it isnt big deal to do easy triggers for a map - but it takes them weeks and weeks to finish (or not) the task. Others - yes - quit faster then they do anything. ...But still there are some nice people :) Just takes time and luck to meet one. I am happy with the modeller I am working with ^^

Well, when I finish this project I probably switch to machinima. It takes less time to finish, the process is funnier, the result is cooler and easier to spread over the internet. Youtube rocks, baby! ...And you don't depend on popularity system, yeh.

You probably should write a bit more about who you are and which help can you provide. Also you probably should tell which help exactly would you need for your map :) Best of luck!

More likely this. It looks a little bit more interesting and more natural, and if you need you can still make it to be straight line.

You can make the cliffs more natural and use giant rock to fill the gaps between the cliffs. The result you will get is still straight line but natural and pretty looking.

You have made straight unnatural organic cliffs - that is the problem.

    P.S. The rocks are okay.

You probably should add more action. As for me (I am that kind of person who hates and skips all those dialogs and stuff in most games and rushes straight into the battle) I would get bored fast. You could probably add more action like, for example, letting the guy jump into that turret and defend himself against waves of monsters.

And to be honest, that not very smart to nerd rage reply to Blizzard's e-mail. Blizzard's Big Boss said: "okay lads, now you go and make sure there is no map on battle.net with such name, now leave.". And then all those community managers and tech support guys went to their rooms and did what they were ordered to do. You can reply anything to them, but they are not able to change anything. Only thing they can do is to politely ask you and send their apologizes with the e-mail.
