posted a message on Tell him to f*** off

Obviously the map maker shouldn't be banned for boosting his map, but saying this guy should go to hell is overdoing it. Boosting is annoying for people who are trying to get their maps popular 'legitamitally'. He's either a map maker who doesn't want to use the system in a way it's not supposed to be used, or he feels bad for map makers who aren't abusing the system and are getting 'cheated' by boosters. What really needs to be done though is making Blizzard aware of just how much the system is being abused by boosting, not banning boosters as they are simply exploiting a flaw in Blizzard's system, but a perfectly legal exploit. If these people didn't boost their maps it would be extremely difficult for long game time maps with a large number of players to make it up the popularity system.

The poster simply isn't seeing the full situation, but his mindset is understandable and saying he should go to hell is in bad taste. Explain why he is wrong as opposed to simply bashing him.

posted a message on So abandon our projects, or abuse pop system?

The only reason I bought WC3 was because of the custom maps. I spent a total of about 2 hours out of the 200+ hours I spent playing the game on the first mission or 2 of the campaign and a couple skirmishes. The other 200+ hours were spent playing customs. Customs defined my WC3 experience.

Now, understanding that I value customs immensely, I am going to say this:

Please do not publish your custom maps. Continue making your maps for fun, but do not publish them. I know you can't test them, but if you absolutely need to test them, then just quit map making. If people stop publishing customs altogether in protest of the popularity system, Blizzard WILL change the system. Blizzard values usermade content as can be seen by the fact that they had a custom game presentation at Blizzcon, they made significant improvements to the world editor, and they had a custom map contest. They know that custom content attracts many players to their games and do not want people to stop publishing maps.

So, stop publishing your maps and Blizzard will give in to our requests.

I know that this post is wishful thinking. People will continue to publish maps... maybe if the webmasters of the major map making communities agree to temporarily take their websites offline this will work. Sixen, will you consider it? Take sc2mapster offline for a while and see if Blizzard reacts? (talk to other mapmaking communities and try to get them to take down their sites to as sc2mapster alone isn't enough)

posted a message on CRC - THE Card Game

This map looks well done, but, as mentioned in the review, the fact that one cannot customize one's deck is a major downside. Until a customization feature is implemented, I don't think I'll be playing this much.

Another thing I'd like to see is some way of making a rarity system that works if users are allowed to make their own decks. Something like at the end of each game players receive a pack which contains some cards (for example, 1 rare, 2 uncommons, 5 commons). This will also encourages users to stick a game out instead of leaving when they start to lose. Even if one loses a game, one still gains something. Re-playability is also aided by this system because users have a lasting collection that carriers through from game to game.

All in all, I'm glad this map was made and am hoping to see updates! Looks very promising! =)

Nice review. Hope to see more of these.

I think I'll probably be avoiding this game though since the majority of people I've met on SC are trolls or civil until they start losing at which point they start whining and blaming their opponent's 'lack of skill'... which might I just add, doesn't make any sense. Why do people say their opponent sucks when they lose to their opponent?

Hey! BlastYoBoots and Procyon. Haven't seen those names in a while. So, when is BattleMages for SC coming out?

posted a message on [Release] Typing of the Zerg

The map is a great idea but it could use some work. Namely, the lag is horrible. Not as in the units lag, but the lag when typing. In a game where speed is what matters, it's extremely annoying not knowing whether the letters I've typed were correct or not until 2 or 3 seconds after I've typed them.

As a start though, this map is awesome. I like the view angle and then background is epic. The towering cliffs shrouded in mystery by the fog. The game itself is too short though, and the repetition of the words is disappointing. I know it would be a lot of work, but would it be possible to add a larger range of words. As it is the map doesn't have ANY replay value (at least I don't plan on replaying it, though I'm glad I played it the first time since it was still a fun experience.

posted a message on Team Micro Arena Various Questions/Help

Clicking on the circle is better than using a worker to select the units. I prefer this design choice you have made. Traditional is not always better. Sometimes it's good to innovate so props to you.

The primary issue you need to fix is the reaper glitch. If a reaper is jumping up or down a ledge when it is killed then the player who had his reaper die can no longer spawn...

    Some secondary issues:

Why is the map so small? While it is possible to come back from the following, it is made more difficult than it should be: The first team to get 2000 gets siege tanks and hydras. Camp the siege tanks on a ledge on the opponent's side and then guard them with hydras. The other team's units will take heavy damage whenever they try to spawn. The way to counter this normally would be to spawn a raven and then fly it to the ledge and drop a turret next to the tanks, but if the tanks are guarded by hydras this is very difficult.

I don't know if this next point is actually bad. It may just be different. I suppose it's like denying in DotA. In this map you can TK. This means that there is no frantic rush for the sacrificer like there is in the SC1 map. Instead players just have their teammates kill them when their unit has low life. I guess this could just mean that this map requires a different strategy then the old map. Maybe you should have a poll and ask people what they prefer: TK to sacrifice or a sacrifice beacon like in SC1.

    __

These issues aside, this is a good map with potential to be great. Please update! =D

    1. Epic Battle by Eiviyn

< That was truly epic. Something about two giant armies in space shooting different color lasers just appeals to me. The warping in at the beginning and rotating camera were nice. I also like the sense of 3d you conveyed through staggering the ships.

    2. Revenge of the Tal'darim by wachoo86

< The best storyline (as far as a story can go in a 2 minute movie). I actually felt somewhat of an attachment for Raynor and his marines. Zeratul's blinking around and assassinating marines was epic. The ending was great too.

    3. Lights In the Fog by Crainy

< This was just amazing. It reflects most the careful planning of a movie director, but something about it was just lacking. It did seem epic. The shadows on the walls and the ultralisk lumbering out of the fog particularly struck me, but something was just missing. I guess I just felt cheated that it ended so abruptly. Maybe just because Zeratul was simply standing there for the whole time. I understand how it conveys a feeling of sorrow. Zeratul watching his men charge into a hopeless battle... but it didn't seem quite right.

    4. The Arena by rougelike

< I really liked the plot twist. That just gave me a sense of satisfaction for some reason that I didn't get from any of the other videos.
