posted a message on Simple Question (I hope)

Hi. I just started learning the Starcraft II editor, but I hope to be caught up soon. I was an avid WC3 map maker and now I've upgraded. I'm having some trouble with the data editor. I'd like to make a unit based off the vulture from the campaign, or add spider mines to another unit. I tried to create a new unit, but there's no vulture to base it off. I thought maybe I could just add the ability to a different unit, but there is no spider mine ability either. Where do I find these within the editor? I feel like I'm missing resources from the campaign. Are these not included in the editor? :/

Could you set up a trigger so that when it is trained you order it to move into the bunker immediately?

posted a message on Problem: All names in triggers empty

    Might be a crazy bug.

Do you want to send a test map to me and I'll see if I have the same issue? ([email protected])

    Can you rename the triggers?

posted a message on Collision Size of Unit

I have a building that I've scaled up to 1.3x its normal size. The problem with this is that units that try to attack it, now end up inside it.

How do you fix this? Is there a way to change the radius?

    Things that don't work:

    Movement - Inner Radius

    Movement - Radius

I've tried changing the footprint, and this does work, but because you can also scale units, I'm thinking there must be another way to change the collision size of a unit, right?

    Quote from alderis: Go

When you say cost value are you speaking of the cost of a unit in the actual game (IE Zealots cost 100 minerals, Marines cost 50 and Zerglings cost 50)? If so you are looking in the wrong place, you need to head to the ability that actually summons the unit/building into existence (ill post pictures if this is indeed what you are looking for). If its something else please give me some more details.

Really? I thought it was just the Cost field. My bad.

Or a link to any tutorial where they demonstrate changing a unit's model. I cannot get this to work no matter what I do.

I'll reiterate my problem: I need to change a building's model to a specific variation of the bio dome model. Changing it in the tree list just creates a placeholder.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out... sort of... not sure how I did it to be honest.

In the data editor there is a field named 'Cost.'

posted a message on Creating a Custom Building

I need someone to walk me through this, because I can't figure it out. I'm trying to make a building with a 4x4 placement size, a shield, and the model of the water bio dome. So here's what I did do (briefly):

    1. Duplicate the Nexus. 2. Rename everything Hydrogen Generator 3. Create a new actor based off Nexus and assign it to the Hydrogen Generator 4. Change the model to the bio dome one.

The problem is, it's the wrong bio dome. If I try to change the model to the right variation of the bio dome, all I get is a stupid little placement sphere.

I'm having a heck of a time trying to figure out how to work this data editor.

Go to the data editor and go to Texture Sets/Tile Sets, cant remember which.

Find the tileset you are using and you can edit the fog there, you can also change the fog height among other things.

That's what I did. It did nothing.

Restarting the editor made it work. :)

How do you change the colour of the environmental (ie not FoW) fog? I've tried opening it up in the data editor and changing the value for 'Fog Colour' but it has absolutely no effect. Hmm..

Now that you mention it, it occurred right after I hit the new button in the data editor thinking I was creating a new unit.

posted a message on Hidden units?

Sometimes the units in my map will randomly disappear in the editor. They are still in-game, and I can place them and such, but I can't see them in the editor. The units layer is set to visible. Am I hitting some hotkey without realizing?

posted a message on 'Light' objects?

I've seen a number of people post screenshots where they've used locational lighting in their maps to create glow effects, or highlight certain areas, or just to add a little flare, but how is this accomplished? In my doodads section I do see the red/orange/green light objects, but placing them does nothing; they don't appear in the editor or in-game.

    Thanks.

In dungeon generation a spider refers to a very basic.. uhh.. AI, I suppose you could say, that 'tunnels' out cells in an array using an algorithm to create rooms, etc. It's how most random dungeons are typically created.
