all of this stuff is awesome. I really really really love the WoW models that terminator posted in assets. i downloaded the ground textures from the sight that he linked and i unzipped them into my file of choice, but how do i get them into the editor?

Hey everyone! I'm looking for pictures of things you've made that are inspirational for ideas, and that show off what the editor is capable of.

Anything goes from crazy data techniques to amazing things that were built like caves, terrain, bridges, etc...

i just want a single thread with amazing pictures, videos, and maps too! yes if you want you can post maps that show off your skill.

    Go Crazy!

I'm a nooby and don't speak this language... However, what's the difference between the Data Editor and the Galaxy Editor? is the data editor in the galaxy editor? or is the data editor a 3rd party mod?

With that being asked, what can the data editor do that the galaxy can't and vise versa? o.o Why create new editors at all? i thought the galaxy wasn't even completely understood by the mapping community because it is so complex?

What are the benefits to the two different ways? Are they just two different ways of doing the same thing? Or will they have different effect? is one harder than the other? Or is it just preference?

This is really useful. Thank you.

From the sounds of what you do i may ask your help with the hero creation and spell animation in my map. (i want them to look unique and epic!)

If you're willing when my map is closer to complete, maybe you can take a look and offer suggestions or maybe tweak a thing or two here and there :)

Thank you for all of your help, i will definitely come to you when i have any technical questions. i have no doubt you can answer all of them or point me to the person who can.

As a side note, I'm creating this game with my friend. I designed the game and am doing the terrain/cosmetics. he's figuring out all of the technical stuff; data, triggers, game function, events etc...

Honestly, i don't care how it is done as long as it is doable. it will be multiple units because players will be in control of a spawn wave which they can send down multiple lanes; over bridges and under, possibly at the same time. While one player may be sending his units over the bridge, another could be sending his units under it. Depending on which path the players choose.

honestly i don't even understand data. or even anything you do lol.

But hearing you say that you can make statues turn their heads as people walk by... that's cool... i didn't even know things like that COULD be done. could you maybe tell me more about the limitations of data editing? Maybe you telling me about the things you can do will give me ideas for my map.

and then I'll most definitely ask get you to help me with any data related issues i have.

You're probably the man i need for this job. I'm a game designer and i decided to make my best design in the SC2 map editor. If you're interested, this game will probably be super popular in the arcade section.

The bridges can be whatever we want them to be for this to work. They just need to look legit. The appearance is super important to me.

I am looking to finish all the terraining first and making sure that i basically have a "game board" before i start adding triggers or anything like that. With that being said, I'm an extremely artistic person and very detailed oriented. So I'm looking for an artistic/design/terraining mentor to take a look at my terrain and to notice the mistakes and/or features in or on it. Additionally, I'm looking for someone who can look at a doodad I've made or look at a.. idk.. a river brook and tell me a better way to do it that would make the game less laggy and make the set look more realistic etc...

But you have been the one that has taken the most interest in my posts so i wouldn't be against including you in this project as well.

If you can do the above mentioned then i will take you. Even if you cannot, i still need an expert of your talents later on in the map development.

posted a message on Map sharing?

I have a friend that is making a map with me and we both add things to the map. Currently, i take it for a week work on it and edit stuff, then I save and send it to him. Then he takes it for a week works on it and edits stuff saves and sends it to me... back and forth, back and forth.

Is there an easier way for both of us to add stuff to the map without having to go through all the trouble of sending it back and forth and only being able to work on it on at a time?

A way for both of us to be working on it at the same time and uploading stuff to the same map simultaneously?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

posted a message on Coach/Mentor Needed!

I'm currently looking for a willing map expert to take a look at my map progress and suggest tips/help with certain things and provide feedback.

Basically someone to Mentor me as i learn the editor, and to coach me as i make my first map. (it's a very big project)

    This person must:

1 - Tell me how i can do things better. Assuming there are multiple ways of doing things or going about a certain task, this person must suggest a better alternative and clearly explain what they mean.

2 - this person must be an expert. I'm talking about anything and everything map editor genius. I want to learn from the best.

3 - This person must have an eye for detail. Basically this person has to look at a certain texture i used or a certain lagoon i designed and tell me how it "doesn't look right" and why.

This is mostly for terrain and doodad placement. I like things to look super sharp and am very critical. i want this to be extremely visually pleasing to the eye. a terraining artist/expert is #1.

I know this is a long shot, but i would appreciate any help i could get! Thank you.

Yes! units must be able to travel under the bridge at the same time units are walking over it. I'm going to adjust the cameras so that the player's (walking under the bridge) computer screens/cameras are actually under the bridge. and if they are walking over the bridge they can see everything.
