I have a door doodad that opens when a unit walks near it. Currently I am using the "Play Sound At Point" trigger for the sound effect, and I was wondering whether or not it will cause lag. Is this method suitable? Or should I make sound effects in the data editor?
Using optimized triggers do not cause more lag than using data-editor when working with sounds, but sounds do actually take up quite a lot of processing-power. Try for yourself in Nexus Wars, or some 4v4 match during big battles. Hit Ctrl + S to toggle sounds on/off. On many computers, you will see your frame-rate raise/fall significally when toggled.

I did read somewhere, that playing sounds via trigger causes significant lag, however, I did not test this myself yet.
Sounds cause lots and lots of network lag when played via triggers. Don't know if it still happens in 1.4.
