Do not specify a model for the portrait actor. With the portrait type actor you must just adjust the events. also sometimes having a timer helps due to loading times of portraits.

Yes they can. You need to modify the events on the actor used for the portrait under the Actor: Portrait Actor field of the Unit actor.
With your impact actors under the Action actor there is a field called Combat: Impact Model which needs to be swapped to one with altered events.
