Have you checked how the sky box is used in Heroes of the Storm. The data should be mostly 1:1 compatible with SC2.
Also do be aware that Heroes of the Storm and StarCraft II have recently started to diverge engines again. Heroes of the Storm added support for D3D11 for improved performance, something I think StarCraft II has yet to do. This also means that the graphic engine might have changed slightly, so some models might not appear like they do in Heroes of the Storm, at least for now.
You need a boarder around the map. Map edges are completely opaque and above the sky box. The boarder has to be thick enough that none of the map edge is visible.
