Hey everyone, I am working on a Cat Mouse map like those from SC1 but I want to give it that special something that only SC2 can do(other then being 3D). And I was thinking maybe instead of just putting my own ideas into this map to ask the community what they thought would be some good ideas.
So here I am, asking away. What do you all think would make some nice/cool/f*ckingAMAZING features for a Cat Mouse map other then your traditional Cat Mouse features found in the orginals in SC1?
The aspect of cat&mouse games that I find the most monotonous is that the game is really decided in the first few minutes. if the mice are able to get even a single defense, it just turns into a "turtle till you can kill the cat." and as the cat it doesn't feel like there's anything you can really do except bump your head against a barrier and hope it breaks.
I'd personally like to see a game thats more pacman-like system, where mice have to constantly be moving around or have to collect a certain amount of items to move on to the next stage or win. I think this would also encourage more teamwork.
Another way could be to go the "Godzilla" style, make the cat a slow moving super unit with crazy attacks. mice would be military factions trying to bring down the monster, and would only lose if all their units and structures are eliminated. The catch to this would be if a building is destroyed, it leaves behind wreckage that can't be rebuilt upon. You could escape with a worker and rebuild, but the map would slowly become smaller and smaller...
My last idea would be doing one themed off the AVP movie.
Have 3 Factions and a constantly changing maze.
Terran: (X Players) Start the game with X units and 3 Artifacts; Objective: escape maze with at least 1 Artifact.
Protoss: (3 Players) Start game with a single zealot with special abilities, if obtain Artifact, gets super ranged attack. Objective: Kill X units
Zerg: (X Players or NPC) Starts game with X units spread around the map. Objective: All Terran and Protoss must die
Allow for open alliances. This would allow for the terran and toss to team up if need be. Keep the zerg numbers and the protoss kill count similar, So that if the terran kills any zerg, it would force protoss to hunt the terran. Each Terran needs 1 artifact to win, making a protoss without the artifact at a disadvantage, this would also discourage long term alliances.
