The best Diplo maps on WC3 were generally similar to each other. For example, Europa and Shogun were two very good diplo maps but they shared many features and were very very similar, if not exactly the same in terms of gameplay. But they offered different settings and flavor touches, and really that's what players want. You can't really revolutionize the diplo genre. You can add various touches, some tweaks to gameplay mechanics, but the core will always be the same. It's no different than any other genre. Every TD map is essentially the same, but you play them because specific towers are fun or you just like the general feel. SC2 has a distinct lack of good diplo/conquest maps, so anything to fill that void is welcome in my opinion.
