Hey guys, in this tutorial I will show you the basics of making Slow/Chill effects for your map. Lets get to it.
I am assuming you already have a spell to apply this to, if not, I will have another tutorial up soon on how to make a basic ability.
Open Editor :P
New Map
Place Units/Terrain/Etc
Open The Data Editor
Go To The Behavior Tab
Create a new Behavior
Name it Slow, hit Suggest ID set the type to Buff, press OK
Set Behavior - Alignment to Negative
Go to Behavior - Modification
Go to Movement
Set Movement Speed Multiplier to X (.75 for 75% move speed, .50 for 50% move speed, etc) I will do .75 for 75% of normal movement speed.
You can also change other things like attack speed.
Press OK
Now for the duration
Set Stats - Duration to whatever you like, I will do 5 seconds.
Now for the icon and tooltip
Set UI - Icon to anything you think fits, I am using btn-ability-terran-slow.dds
Set UI - Tooltip to anything you like, I am doing “Unit is slowed, moving at 75% of normal move speed”
Go To The Effects Tab
Create a new Effect
Name it Slow (Apply), press Suggest ID
Set the type to Apply Behavior
Press OK
Click on Behavior - Behavior and find Slow
Press OK
Go To The Actors Tab
Create a new Actor
Name it Slow Effect, Press Suggest ID
Set the type to Model
Press OK
Click on Art - Model
This will be what the effected unit looks like during the chill, you can use what you want but I am using Active Crystals.
Press OK
Click on Event - Events +
Add a new event
Set Msg Type to Behavior
Set Source Name to the name to Slow
Set the Sub Name to On
Set the Action Msg Type to Create
Copy and paste this event
Change the Sub Name to Off
Change the Action Msg Type to Destroy
Set Actor - Flags to Scale To Host
Press OK
Go To The Ability Tabs
Find your Ability, it needs to be Effect - Target type
Set Effect - Effect to Slow (Apply)
There you guys go, that’s how you add a Slow/Chill effect to an ability.
To add damage or other effects make it part of a Set or just add the others individually.
Thanks,
Cybrok
P.S: I will link the tutorial for a Frostbolt spell in the reply area on this tutorial.
