Imagine the legs of a thor with the main body of a collossus coming up off of them, its left side and gun are intact, but its right gun is missing along with a portion of its body; grafted to what remains of the thor's right side and arm. Upon its back is the front of a terran battlecruiser, grafted onto the back end is the engines and hangers of a Protoss carrier.
The square one? Looks pretty cool, although I would like to give it a car-like lower body, with the square part able to rotate around on top, and the guns sort of sticking off the side like arms... just my thoughts.
I mean a vaugely-humanoid body with a sort of tank-like lower body to move around, and the upper half hold the weapons.
What I imagine is the lower half of Sgt Kelly, with a large bar sticking up and large guns like we have been trying out with the SCU sticking off of it.
Just a thought, as the ball idea has been bugging me... It just feels cartoony...
Also, just curious, why would they make the SCV round? I would like to know our race's motivation behind some of their decisions. I mean, if you were designing a creature like the SCV; a basic footman in your army, well-rounded and useful 99.9% of the time. What reason would you have making it a little round ball thing?
All I can think is to go SW and have it roll around for speed...
Here's a concept using my idea. The Clanker is supposed to be a round strider that creates a shield. So I took the Science Vessel hull and gave it Immortal legs. This is just one fast example of the ideas we could use. I don't believe the salvaged parts should make the whole model, we need to add scraps and make it look more different from the original units used. Maybe one or two pieces of metal on the legs and more scrapped parts around the hull. It also needs a weapon instead of a dish.
What about beams welded to where the units connect; looking like it holds them together? And then they we could have portions where you can see inside the pieces and look at the unit's "skeleton" that allowes the pieces to all work together.
I'm trying to avoid the star wars theme. I am a fan of droids, but yeah.
As I said, Virus also felt too organic looking. I'm trying to get something impossible to relate too... something that actually looks like a machine built by aliens... idk...
Did you try rounding the bottom of the first one? Make it more egg-like than trashcan?
I honestly wasn't thinking of the SCU as fast... I was more thinking of it like the hydralisk; slower than the stalker or reaper, but able to do more damage.
Oh man, that looks cool. I can just imagine marching through a thick jungle, chopping away ferns and vines. Suddenly; one guy screams and drops dead from a laser. I draw my weapon, but can't see anything. Another laser and someone else is down; others begin firing at where it seemed to come from. I thought I heard something like a motorcycle, but the gunfire is too loud. Another guy drops, the laser passed inches from my face. Looking around, a stop a log just large enough to take cover in. I dive in, more shots and scream.
And then there is silence. My squad is dead. But I need to know; I must find out what killed us. Slowly, I crawl from the log, glancing around at the bodies. A fern next to me shakes and I raise my gun to it. A light shines through, pushing through the plantlife and towards me. For a moment, I think someone found us. I expect to see a man with a flashlight.
The is a whirring sound, the light pushes through, attachted to a sort of mechanical arm. It comes closer, inspecting me. I let lose a storm of bullets in panic.
Sparking and whirring, the light pulls back in shock. There is a thump. And then silence.
Sorry, just had to write that down...
And I like variation 4 of the worker.

fridge brilliance:
What if there was a flyer made from a terran base?
What about a giant centiped/train things for the walker? Perhaps when the front dies the other parts become timed units?
@DrSuperEvil: Go
I was actually thinking of that for the T3 flyer.
Also, for the T3 walker:
Imagine the legs of a thor with the main body of a collossus coming up off of them, its left side and gun are intact, but its right gun is missing along with a portion of its body; grafted to what remains of the thor's right side and arm. Upon its back is the front of a terran battlecruiser, grafted onto the back end is the engines and hangers of a Protoss carrier.
So, considering the lack of posts, I figured I would ask about the topic of our custom models. Any word on how they're coming along?
I was also thinking that we could perhaps have a flyer unit that looks like it is using the crstal of a void ray to stay afloat... just a though.

Yeah, my bad their. I understand the clanker being round-ish, as it is like a mobile shield.
Personnally? I imagine designing something more like Sgt Kelly from Doom 3. http://doom.wikia.com/wiki/Sabaoth

I'm honestly missing what the probe is suposed to be from the blueprint, I feel. It just looks strange...
Yeah, I'm not feeling the droid...

I just got an awesome idea; What if the T3 walker was something like a Thor/Battlecruiser/Collossus/Carrier hybrid?

I honestly prefer treads for something so rounded. The wheels just made it look really cartoony...
I agree with the idea of avoiding humanoid looks, with the exception of tier 3 possibly.
We also need a name for the race... as 'robots' is kind of lame...
