@mseverns: Go I use Photoshop's blending options -> stroke. Thickness of 2 pixels for each file. Make the image and blackground black, first stroke in white. This is your first file. Add stroke to the unit's wireframe layer then create a new stroke effect around it in light gray for second file. Repeat the process with a darker gray and you have your third file.
