Yeah i had similar problems myself during my own screenshots, trying to take pictures that doesnt show the wasted space behind, or doodads that is floating in the air because it looks good from above but doesnt from a Frog perspective.
So in the end i would suggest just zooming in on the important details and the things that are the "good stuff" on the map, if there is small details all over the map you can zoom in and give a example. ( i believe i did this during my "lion king" reference, and you can see some flying doodads during my Ultralisk den )
Welcome to the forum, dont be afraid of posting whatever really.... just see my first suggestion and you see how helpful everyone can be.
and i will upload the maps to this thread after the exercise is finished.
Very nice gurrgel, i like the first picture since it gives a kinda Clichè western feel to the area around, also you should almost have renamed the map to the "king of truckers"
Thank you very much, i cant believe this question were never answered when it was that easy... (facepalm happend)
Added: so basically: tested out my new knowledge and trying out the camera in the editor, personally i figured the Fog should be used in morderation, and as a mental note: Creep clouds are Very VERY dense and i had to turn the game view on and off to reset the density of the cloud to manage taking screenshots without too much dirt.
The 2 last screenshots ( outside the lair with the marines ) show the difference with and without the game view, currently i set all the lightning to in-game view in all of my screenshots.
also i guess thats the last time i have time to modify the map, but in retroperspective i think it would be fun for both me and others to see how much a map can transform using a little time in it
Hmmm i couldn't really see much from that picture, but all i can is that its a spam of Zerg buildings? am i right maybe add some terrain variations and more doodads, add some decay (Gray Fog) and dead units, Hmmmm as i have said to DracoKnight, do not take a picture from up above, take the picture in editor, on the ground to add a feeling to the viewer that they are there :D
well, theres 2 ways of showing off their work here:
1: Show it as a piece of art
2: Show it as a Map
Currently i preferder to actually show off the terrain around to get tips on how to improve, the camera angle is more or less useless if i cant even make a map properly. Also for us "less experienced" its kinda hard finding out how to actually view the weather effects in the editor as they show as small icons on the map... and you have yet to tell us how since you suggest it!
as for Sdmaze: as from the standpoint of the picture you could be very well a overmind overlooking his swarm roaming over the battlefield, the fires kinda add the extra action to it. so not bad, pretty good actually.
Well, currently the screenshots are taken with medium quality settings, for your pleasure only i set everything to ultra and show both of them with highest map setting ( ingame it wont allow that, but when you are trying to kill something graphics is your least worry ) //
Currently i have no idea how to actually preview the weather effects before you actually test the map, as in the editor they are the "weather symbol"
But i have done a few tweaks...
Thanks for that, personally i thought it was really worth revisiting the map after i had slept on the case a little, as i started on the map it was around 2 or 3 in the morning and i just mixed it together there and then, and some right pointers from Mozared gave me some motivation to get back there and do things.
So basically what i did was:
Shift-click in dodads where they normally dont want to place themselves, as shift+click forces the unit/dodad to stick where you want it ( done with the eggs to make them cluster and with several of the vines around the picture )
Change the egg size from 0.7 to 1.0 and the ultralisk size to 2
and as a finishing thouch make the terrain a little more "bumpy" and change the lightning to a more volcanic red.
Edit: added another try as a "Lion King" reference where i just tested a little more on water falls and stuff
@GunGryphon: Go

Nevermind saw a way to work it out
still need to find a way how to rotate stuff or copy the direction to more dodads
ctrl + prtscr makes a "Terrain" screenshot so you dont need to fix it...
my contribution: Ultralisk lair ( yes i suck... >_< )
