this whole thread was to see if blizzard steals from warhammer, When I said stuff such as "Warhammer stole the idea from blizzard to make a medieval fantasy RTS game"
I was contradicting the normal everyday hearing on how Blizzard ripped off Warhammer... it was a joke... chill out.
Second Dont take things out of context. Heres is the whole sentence,
Warhammer sucks... Tis true. thats my opinion though, I just dont like their community or their games. they are to me something I would play to wait for the next blizzard RTS.
It was an opinion. That is all, and I even states that is my opinion OPINION, meaning that I personally dont like their games nor their community that is all...
and im no blizzard fan boy, I just look at one fact, Blizzard has yet to make a game that WASN'T Groundbreaking. Warcraft 1 Revolutionized RTS, Warcraft 2, Re-revolutionized RTS, Starcraft Set the standard for RTS, Warcraft 3, Set the Mapmaking standards, WoW set the RPG standard, Shall I continue? Starcraft 2 Re- Set the standard. lol.
I would say Wc3 set the standard for RTS but Other games came out after WC3 that had a better RTS element to it, WC3 Great game, Just not Fully an RTS. its more of an RTS RPG.
When Blizzard makes a bad game, I will quit buying them, Even with bad decisions (no lan) Blizzard still made an amazing Starcraft Sequel with its only real problems in the editor/ Pop system.
why must thier always be some loser fanboy complaining, I dont read game books... and I am not researching for an hour to find the exact date of a book that still holds no relevance to the subject. so the whole argument of that book is mute.
and if that was the book you were talking about why didnt you link that one? Quit trolling..
if anything it proves my point the books cover shows marines, they have very little similarities, Storm troopers look more like the marines used in starcraft. you know what it shows? that warhammer changed their original designs to be similar to starcraft.
Then you misspelled 1988, and I re-checked the books your right there was 3 books that were 1989 and not 1998 I misread that one my bad
Warhammer: Wolf Riders (1989)
Warhammer: Ignorant Armies (1989)
Warhammer: Red Thirst (1990)
But there was no Warhammer 40k books before starcraft,
And my points still stand, the only things that could have been stolen would have been basic desciptions and cover art, all 3 books have useless cover art not sure if the books are good or not though. once agian not bashing warhammer or anything.
StarCraft was part of the US Air Force's Aerospace Basic Course, used to teach newly active officers about crisis planning under stress and joint service teamwork.[95] Other efforts to make more 'realistic' current-day battle software led to distractions when simulated hardware didn't align with the real hardware active duty officers knew about. The science fiction setting allowed students to focus on the battle tactics
Also, I just looked for Board peices that warcraft and starcraft would have been based off of, The ones from the 1980s.
I Didnt even realize they had the books, dont know what year they came out though.
Edit: Checked the years on those books, all came out AFTER warcraft and starcraft Except 3 books, in which none of them had any art pertaining to anyhting remotely relevent, EXCEPT the wolf riders idea, Though this idea could have been formed in the 18th century as alot of the others.
So the Current Space Marine style, large plates, yadda yadda came out after.
Though in all honesty it doesnt matter, its the gameplay and graphics that matter. :D
and I cant comment on warhammer games EXCEPT space marine... which kinda sucks. its like a6.5 or 7/10
EW!!!, i found one of the Space Marine board peices look at this, it has very little looks compared to the BLizzard marines, in Sc1, remember this is all Warhammer 40k had before their game that came a year after Starcraft 1
Of course this could be because of Early development and concept art
THough I have to say that Blizzard based their games on the Warhammer SETTING but nothing was really stolen, but that could be because of pre development.
Alright thanks Ill add what you found in the appropriate sections, i just put that meme fanboy rant under warhammer because its all I hear with no proof.
If its true that blizzard had talked to Warhammer guys about making a Warhammer game, then I say that Warhammer stole the idea to make a video game from blizzard :D lol
Wahh? i only see a minor resemblance for the protoss, Lol, In one the only similarity is they can be blue.. in the other one its just a longated skull, nothing else is the same.
as for the orcs, there are alot of similarities, Green, Tusk, Barbarians
And I did some research just now, and the Orcs that blizzard would have copied looked nothing alike, Since Warhammer didnt have a game that wasnt a board game .
I see very little resemblance, I would actually have to say that Blizzard made their orc, and then warhammer kind of copied a little bit of the art style, they used the Word orc first, but blizzard made the actual races looks.
War-hammer was a 1980s board game that Ripped off Lord of the Rings... because the makers of Warhammer couldnt buy LOTR board game rights.
Blizzard wanted to buy the rights to war-hammer for a video game War-hammer said no, so blizzard made their own that used 2 characters from the war-hammers series... Humans and the Orc..
Warcraft Defense
Humans
The only surviving people of the Homo Genus population. Arrived 200,000 Years ago...
To me this means that The use of humans is no different then using a Cat or a dog in your game... ITS NOT STOLEN YOU NOOB!!!
Orc
a race of mythical human-like creatures, generally described as fierce and combative, with grotesque features and often black, grey or greenish skin. This mythology has its origins in the writings of J. R. R. Tolkien. derived from Old English orc 'demon'
So an orc is a creature made up in the 1700s
Starcraft
in the start of the Starcraft omnibus, Chris Metzen says that Starcraft was originally going to be a STARWARS game, not a warhammer one.
Space Marine
The first space marine unit, the Galactic Marines, was used in E. E. Smith's Lensman series, published starting in 1937.[citation needed], but the lesser known Bob Olsen (1884-1956) also wrote a few stories and novelettes about Space Marines in Amazing Stories ("Captain Brink of the Space Marines", November 1932; "The Space Marines and the Slavers", December 1936).
So space marine was WAY BEFORE war-hammer aswell? AMAZING!!!! another Warhammer fanboy put down in the dirt and stomped on.
The defense rest, Trolls, Elves Ogres, Knights, Turtles, Dwarves, and Goblins are well known to take place in Greek Mythology. and during the Dark ages.
Warhammers Accusations
The games "Starcraft" and "Warcraft" are rumored to be based on the table top game "Warhammer" and "Warhammer 40,000", it is rumored that Warcraft was supposed to be a Warhammer PC game in development but a fall out between Gamesworkshop and Blizzard occurred. One link to this rumor can be found in "Warcraft III", if you repeatedly click a griffon rider he will say "This Warhammer costs 40K", 40K being a shortening of 40,000.
Old english word meaning Demon? HORSE SHIT they stole it from us because we had a board game.... that we TOTALLY didnt steal from Dungeons and Dragons. or LOTR.... dumbass.
No real evidence Other then that blizzard tried to buy the rights to warhammer. And even this is only something I have been told and i cant find proof of anywhere on the internet.
Final words
Warhammer sucks... Tis true. thats my opinion though, I just dont like their community or their games. they are to me something I would play to wait for the next blizzard RTS.
As far as Games go, Blizzard beat the Warhammer series on dates of release usually by one or two years. Warhammer stole the idea from blizzard to make a medieval fantasy RTS game. but blizzard made one better. and then the space RTS once again blizzards was better, but there was another RTS that was a space RTS I forget what it was called.
If I have Misread or Missed anything that can be proven on a legitimate website on the internet PLEASE post a link.. But honestly this whole blizzard stole this or that is bull shit, None of these Creatures were exactly Original in the first place by anyone for over 100 years lol.
Rumors
I brought this up with my local GW manager, and he explained to me that back in the day all of the Warcraft guys used to play Warhammer. They came to GW one day and asked if they could make a game, GW being the old crabby man that it is refused and then Warcraft came out, Starcraft soon to follow.

Cool fact I just learned though
@Alevice: Go
thats still after Starcraft, Starcraft 1 was released march 1998. and the book was most likely released after starcraft.
I think its liek Mozared had said, both have pretty basic units, its most likely coincidence.

I'm not trying to bash warhammer, not until I get a chance to actually play it other then Spacemarine, which sucks...
Im just saying that blizzard was original enough to where its not even a ripoff, Thats all.

Those look like Very poor prototypes lol.
This thread is a look at mostly facts, about if Blizzard stole from Warhammer.
War-hammer Vs. Blizzard RTS
okay here's what I understand
Warcraft Defense
Humans
To me this means that The use of humans is no different then using a Cat or a dog in your game... ITS NOT STOLEN YOU NOOB!!!
Orc
So an orc is a creature made up in the 1700s
Starcraft
