I've spent a lot of time working on a new map that requires at least 6+ players for it to be entertaining.
Obviously it starts off at the lower end of the pop ladder once published. I'm lucky if one person joins every 20 minutes or so.
Unfortunately it's completely pointless to play the map with just one or 2 other players. The result is that I'm stuck with a map that I'll never be able to even test properly without somehow artificially boosting its popularity or begging strangers in other servers to join. Another result is that unless it becomes very popular, potential players will have to spend a long time waiting for others to join, which in turn makes it less popular, effectively disqualifying it from being worth the time and effort put into its development.
Seriously, what was Blizzard thinking? I understand their motivations behind implementing a popularity system, but why make that the ONLY system?
Back in the Warcraft 3 days testing new material was a joy. Random people would join random maps. There were always plenty of testers available.
Perhaps Blizzard should consider implementing a sort of 'test/dev' lobby, or a 'join random game' function. I'm sure nobody would object, and it would help many map devs out there, making it easier for them to improve their creations, in turn contributing to a better overall gaming experience for everyone.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, this will probably never happen. Thanks a lot.
As much as I love to see how strongly people feel about SC2's custom games and such, there's been an overflowing amount of posts since SC2 came about the popularity system and a lot of people, most people on these forums as far as I know are tired of seeing thread after thread appearing with the same thing being said about how bad it is.
You're more than welcome to talk about the popularity system, but I'd prefer you'd do it here (it's okay to bump/necro it) to keep the amount of threads saying the same thing to a minimum, thanks!
perhaps the popularity system is just a stop gap between no system, and the market place?
i pray that the market place has cross realm map publishing, if it does, i'm extremely happy =).
if you contribute to that 'suggestions to improve the popularity system' thread, please be constructive. coz the idea is to present blizzard with a prototype example of what the join custom game screen should be like.

I think the Marketplace will be similar to Google's Android Market Place. Considering they are both on Popularity system... The only difference between Google's and SC2's is that Google's has much more Filters and actually has a Just In Filter as well... And of course Ratings :D... If Blizzard added that it would be totally fine...

Em, use the Testers (EU) team for instance. Get some friends ingame, that would help :D

Now that I've finished the projects I started earlier, maybe it is my time to take a rest....... til Blizz fixes that stupid popularity system.
Popularity talk here, don't make me say it a third time, you're not really contributing in any way to the discussion with that post in here either ;).
