Dang. Well, here is a video of my custom doodad, if anyone is interested.

It is a modified vortex to look like a black hole. I was going to make a map around it. Hehe. But it doesn't make sense if it doesn't kill nearby units. I could always block the area via pathing.. I dunno.
Make a region where you want the units to get killed and then go to triggers and add an event, unit enters (the region)
then go actions and go units - kill unit (triggering unit)

Is it possible to have a doodad inflict damage or kill any units that come within a certain radius? If so, how?
Thanks.
I don't know. But you can create a point in one Doddad. Create a trigger that starts on the event: Unit enters point. Then have a action: kill unit.
There are triggers to modify health of units as well so if you only want to inflict damage but not kill you can do that to
I'm trying to figure out how to do it without making the map custom. Thanks for the answers though.
You can't. If you modify anything in the data editor the map will not allow it to be published as melee.
You can make custom doodads or duplicate existing ones without making the map Custom.
@desiderius1: Go
As far as I know, you cannot cause damage through actors (which is all a doodad is).
