I wonder if someone could help me out. I tried to duplicate the fortress gate 45West, which is an multiform.
It keeps messing with the original. It really is bugging me haha. I know lots of people allready asked but i coudnt find a specific linup of steps i should take. Could anyone plz make an step by step tutorial how to duplicate an fortress gate properly. Im currently trying to fix it with the supply depot. But i just dont see the prober lineup of steps i should take to get it right on that either. Help is much appriated!!!
I tried to copying the unit version of the fortress gate. But everytime i try to copy the lowered version of the gate. It changes the original one as well. What are the steps i should take to seperate them? I do appriciate the help! Looking forward to your reponse!
So you tried copying just the unit and then just the actor? With copy and paste, not dupe?
If that fails just make a new unit and select the new unit and the one you want to copy using the Ctrl button when clicking. That will allow you to compare the two side by side and adjust fields as needed.
You need to adjust the unit facing via the Stats: Facing field under the Units data type and give it a new footprint created under the Footprints data type

Iam starting now. I will let you know:) oo and could it be if you have mutliple dependencies (like swarm and swarm story) that multiobjects get doubled. Cause i was wondering why, when you copy the lowered version of the fortress gate that it automatically generates a double and rewrites the original.
Oo and if you create a new unit. Which parent file should i choose for the fortress gate. default settings(unit) or Fortress Gate or ..? i currently did it with fotress gate.
Ahhhrh this is frustrating! haha i love it. Anyway thanks for the quick response drsuperevil!
OK i know iam asking much but could you plz write down your steps. Cause iam stuck at every step that i take.
Copying... :P
OK 1-> i copied the "unit" fortress gate small west. Then i copied the "actor" defensive wall small gate west. Attach them together. So far so good.
(i copy it from in unit property -> so, unit properties -> default setting(unit) -> copy from "fortress gate west -45..."
2-> I copied the "unit"fortress gate small west lowered. Everything blows up in my face.
Then i tried to build them from scratch but iam really doubting everything that i could set.
And the thing is i need a mirrored version of the fortress western gate. But one that stays in place when the anim kicks in and again staying in the same spot when the lowered version morphs. Again, i know its much to ask but i really need a step by step. Cause now iam doubting everything that i check or note. If its not to much to asked could you help me out.
PS. How can i upload my map so that you can see what iam up against. Maybe that would help:). Anyway again, Thanks for the quick responses. Drsuperevil. Best of wishes to you.

Just use the campaign mods, the story ones tend to give problems with copying like the allied commanders mod.
I just use the default parent option but then again I read through every field. The parent just changes the default settings.
By attached together you mean under the events?
Both units need to be facing the same direction. Morphs have a timer for changing the facing when morphing between two units. Only reason gates use two units is that it is the only way to change to footprint which is what determines the pathing across the gate/bridge.
As the site has recently been migrated there are problems with uploading maps unless in zip format. The old site used to accept SC2 maps directly but until the people from Curse come back from their Christmas/New Year holidays you cannot upload maps easily.
I only have a limited understanding of Latin. I advise looking at my zerg gate demo map and I will give you a detailed explanation within the next 24h.
In the case of the gate model you are using you notice both units create the same Unit actor and the morph changes what animation brackets are played (work in this case).

Ok start by copying the two units for the fortress gate 45 west (the raised and lowered ones) and the Unit type actor shared by the original units. With the lowered gate unit you need to go to the Unit: Name field and change the text key (just add a 2 at the end) because for some reason that does not change when copying the unit.
Under the Event: Events - Send field of the Unit type actor set the far top 6 events to the raised gate unit, remember that with the construction events the start and finish Sub Name is important. At the bottom of the events list third and fourth from the bottom are two Unit Birth events, set these to the lowered gate unit. The far bottom and second to bottom Morph events have Morph To terms, set those to the copied gate units.
Under the Unit: Flags field of the units disable the Turnable flag and set the Stats: Facing to 45 degrees from 225 (225-180=45).
Copy the two Morph type abilities under the Abilities data type used by the gates. Go to the Ability: Info - Unit field and set the unit to your gate units.
Back under the Units data type go to the Ability: Abilities - Ability field and replace the morph abilities with the ones you copied and altered. Finally go to the command card by clicking any of the Ability: Command Card fields and link the ability to the button.

Try using copy and paste and not duplicate.
It only consists of a unit and an actor while the ability can be shared.

TY! will try. Ooh and how do you change the facing so that the anim plays it the right direction? I will master this:)
