There's a setting for sounds 3D Relative world, whereby the player gets to only hear the sound when his screen is near the location of it. What I liked to do is to increase this region so that one can hear it from relatively further away. Like to avoid using 2D setting, as this transmit it to all players regardless of screen distance.

not sure if this is possible...
If anything if your using a specific sound you can ...
create a new sound data object.
link it to use the sound file you want... and go from there... not sure if its possible though
