When creating a map, i can choose a mod or a map. How does a mod work? What do people normally use it for?
Can i create custom units in a custom mod and use it on all of my campaign maps? Does it work on multiplayer?
A mod contains no terrain data.
It is like a data base for custom models/data assets/....
You can import more custom textures and models into a mod than into a map,
you need to upload it to battle.net and decide whether it is open source to other mappers
(so they can use your assets too) or private (locked) to your account. You can publish multiple
maps using multiple mods.
So for example if i create a mod name Test. And i created a custom marine name soldier. When i use this mod in my map, i can use soldier right away as a custom unit?
Yea. If you're gonna make multiple maps with the same custom data stuff, you can put all your data into a mod and just add it as a dependency and it'll all appear in maps that use that mod.
Also, question, have custom models in mods been fixed? And what about imported sounds? I know there were problems with both, but something was changed with the last patch i fink...
