Hello there I've finally decided to start making maps for sc2 after a long time of wc3 map making. However sc2 is very different when it comes to the data editor, and I wonder where I would start for making this ability/behaviour.
What I want to make: Basicly a field working like the protoss power fields that they use for buildings with 2 differences. First, the power field is only required for starting the construction of buildings, and not to power them during or after construction finnished. Second the power source will basicly "hold" be the resource used. Imagine starting the construction of a building instead of using x minerals and y gas I want to use z "power source resource". So building something can only be done in a power field if said power field has enough of its resource.
Now I am not sure what ability/behaviour/other should be used for this. Looking at the Power Source behaviours they do not seem to provide much versatility other than their current function. Would it be possible to use magazine units (1000s might be needed in a single power source), or perhaps shields but in all cases how would I give access to the resource for the SCV?
Now I am not asking for a complete guide to how to do this but maybe a hint to the right direction, like if magazine units are viable and if a unit can share its "resource" with thoose within his field somehow.
That would be the Power User behaviour on your building units.
Your second issue I would use an aura system on the power building that applies a buff to the building that uses an Issue Order effect to cancel it if the power source is at capacity.
The trouble is keeping the resource local. Power systems consist of two behaviours. A source and a user.
You could also try buff stacks that the Build ability uses as a requirement.
Power sources also have levels. You could link freshly constructed buildings to the power source via buff stacks and just lower/disable the level of the power source when it is at cap.
