I'm trying to create a "Nav Beacon" unit, which can be configured to issue a variety of orders to other units near it, allowing the player to create a network of units all consistently carrying out the same orders. For example, a dropship that hangs around an area, loads units that come into that area, transports them to another area and unloads them there, then returns to the starting point and repeats.
In order to achieve this, I'm giving the Nav Beacon a few different Effect - Target abilities, each of which creates a Persistent effect at the target point. Every time the persistent effect runs its periodic effect, it searches the area around its caster Nav Beacon and orders any units it finds to execute different orders, with the target of those orders set to the persistent effect.
However, the units don't seem to be able to find the persistent right. When issued a Move order, they start moving all the way to the bottom-left corner of the map, regardless of where the persistent should be. When issued an order to use a Teleport ability, on the other hand, they just sit there. Those are the two I've tested so far, and I'd like to get this figured out before I keep going.
The Issue Order effects have their Target fields set with the Persistent in the Effect field, and Unknown in the Value field (anything else seems to make them move back toward the Nav Beacon).
Nevermind; fiddled around with it some more, setting the Target Effect of the Issue Order effect to the Persistent and the Target Value to Target Unit/Point got it working.
