So I've been lurking for about a week trying to find an article on this already, and since I can't find anything on the internet (let alone SC2Mapster) about this, I figured I'd sign up and ask the question.
I would like to apply a model from "Story Mode" (specifically SM_Mercenary03) to another unit's animations. He seems to be rigged up with bones (dont know about nodes) quite well, has a generic "T" standing, rigged static stance, and includes some irrelevant animations that make use of his bone rigging.
I'd like to apply this model to the animations of, say, the Marine or Ghost characters. Simply model swapping through triggers (or Data Editor, for that matter) changed the model, but didn't apply any animations to his model.
I'm not looking for a 30-second miracle fix, but I'd appreciate any help that can be offered. I know that exporting the model and manually rigging and applying animations is a solution, however I'm hoping there's a more time-efficient method to do this.
The SM stuff uses imported animation files like the civilians/infested civilians/spectre prisoners. Under the Models data type is a field called Animations (Required), this uses .m3a format files to supplement the animations. You cannot transplant one models animations to another due to bone differences. You can with some effort open the existing animation files and look at the names of the existing animations (good for the SM mutalisk). As far as I know, there is no 3dmax plugin for making this file type.
Still, you could always give the civilian etc animation file and try your luck.
Thanks for the info, at the very least I've got "Stand" animations working, and that actually has a bit of use. I'll keep looking for a way to get SM models to use unit animations.
