After months, I am back here to say that I pretty much moved to Unity too. After about 1 week noobing around, I started making my own simple 2D single player game and I am almost faster than if I would do it with sc2 editor.
@sandround: Go
Yeah, I would say thats the main advantage of SC2 that there is multiplayer code in it and its free to host games. Unity 3d have free code assets thats let you create multiplayer games pretty easily using x company server, but you have to pay for using the server....
2- Try making your first game with Unity 2d settings so that you can easily make for yourself all the 2d sprites/models you need.
3- Your first game you make should be very simple....
4- Use google search for all the things you dont understand and you want to do.... (I usually always find an answer for my problems.... (unlike in sc2 editor))
5- Also Unity far better documented than Sc2 editor, I suggest you read things you are interested in the editors doc.: http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual and scripting api: http://docs.unity3d.com/ScriptReference/index.html (api is really useful! You should look up functions from it when you dont understand code in the example projects I linked)
Btw Heartstone made by Unity (many seem to not know that).
And even Blizz guys leave Blizz and work on their indie Unity projects like this guy:
(Cause clearly blizz top 10 pick from the 81 sucks)
Cruiser Command
Diablo: Mortal Shroud
Hive Keeper
Jet Craft
Mission Frontier
Mage Craft
Hover
Mad space
Space Platform Escape
Entropy TD (yeah this is my map haha)
I know its my taste and most people have different taste.
But at least I wasnt picking 8 minigames, cause minigames fun for all... (for at least 5 min)
(Btw I only play Space platform escape and Entropy TD these days)
@Hookah604: GoEDIT: I wonder what advantages the SC2 engine has so that it's a viable choice for game development (compared with other engines like Unity or Unreal). I'd like to think it makes certain things easier like Blizzard keeping up the servers and we don't need to do any coding to handle multiplayer.
Sc2 comes with lots of assets. (you can make a nice game without any modeling or buying models)
(I would love if Blizz would allow more control over the engine...)
I suggest crucifying me, I have 3 entries from that 79 (I think I am the only one who has more than 1) and all of them not made for the contest maps.
Though I made updates on all of entries just cause the contest, I could have done what Tya did: upload my map with a different name after some changes. And that shows why cant you make a contest and say only "new" maps allowed.
Btw I have to agree that most of maps sent for the contest are really nice, but I would say that probably non of it as good as a good standalone pc game, which is understandable as most maps are made by one person. I just thought there would be at least one big collaboration which releases an awesome AAA game for the contest.
I have a feeling Mission Frontier will win. (that would be a well deserved win, thats the only map from the list which was recently made and played by lot)
There are many good maps in the list it will be hard to pick 10.
Maybe we should revive the freshly again dead map night by playing through these maps...
Ahhh figured it out!
The correct path to objective panel UI is: <Frame type="ObjectivePanel" name="GameUI/UIContainer/ConsoleUIContainer/ObjectivePanel" file="GameUI">
cause hots Game UI!

Some tips for guys who want to try out Unity:
1- Open simple games and look into how they do it:
I suggest this 2, I learned lot from them at start:
http://u3d.as/content/m2h/c-game-examples/1sG (5 very simple 3d game, you should start with looking into these and modifying them)
https://www.assetstore.unity3d.com/en/#!/content/11228 (Game made by Unity team to show off 2D settings...)
2- Try making your first game with Unity 2d settings so that you can easily make for yourself all the 2d sprites/models you need.
