Stranded on Krydon Renewed
Stranded on Krydon Renewed
Description:
You have crash landed on the hostile, jungle, infested world of krydon. You and 0-3 other SCVs are the only survivors of the crash. You must gather resources, explore & find abandoned structures to survive Zerg attack waves at night & find a way to escape or Conquer Krydon! Stranded on Krydon Renewed is a renewed version of the original Stranded on Krydon created by Nagnazul. Because I really like Stranded on krydon I decided to create my own.
How to Win
- Win by seeking rescue, finding a way to escape or wait 50 min until the end.
Tips:
Gameplay tips:
- Avoid the bottom right corner, there are lots of bad guys ready to pounce, only engage when you are ready.
- Explore with scanner towers or flying command centers/resource stockpiles.
- Use your SCV's laser gun (right click)
Basic tips:
- Use your SCV to construct defenses against nightly Zerg assaults.
- Scout for resources during the day. Minerals gas and hatcheries are auto-generated.
- Escape or conquer Krydon before you are overwhelmed.
- Once your SCV runs out of HP you have 60 seconds left before or die (you will lose unless there are other players that are not dead) unless SCV is repaired/healed by any means.
Advanced tips:
- Find Protoss outpost and get the probe (it can: teleport across map, build some Protoss structures, the structures can build a powerful Protoss army)
- Kill all Zerg hives and hatcheries on map! (Advantage: fun and no more attack waves)
- Find factory (it can: build MULEs with no timed life to mine minerals).
- Find fusion core (required to build big berthas)
Future Plans & Known Glitches:
Future Plans:
- Fixing bugs/glitches/lag fixes
- Basically done everything I want to
Known Issues:
- Lag
- Starcraft rarely crashes when leaving the map.
About:
Stranded on Krydon Renewed has the same game mechanics as the original but has much more detail (doodads, terrain features). (link for original SoK: http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/resources/project-workplace/14896-release-stranded-on-krydon/#posts) Nagnazul said this " First off, some bad news:
"I won't be working on Stranded On Krydon anymore.
Now, some good news:
I've opened up Stranded On Krydon for modifications. If you want to open up the map, see how it was done and modify it; go right ahead. Want to tune the difficulty? Go for it. Want to continue developing the game and adding feature? Be my guest. Want to turn it into a completely different game? You can."

Hehe, I too, have been distracted by the new mission pack and also some other games I have bought, but the one game of SoK I played, I have something interesting.
The science facility that you find, you can build Abberations and Infestors from. I don't know if this was intended, though it would make sense to find infestors and mutated humans from an abandoned building on a zerg-infested planet, but the main thing is, neither of them cost resources and only takes 2 seconds to build. Their card says they cost 2 supply, but I only ever saw the Infestor costing supply, while I could spam Abberations and proceed to wipe the map of ground forces for no good reason at all, lol!
Other than that, I really like the starting area with the crashed ship leaving a trail behind, because that really added a nice feel when starting out. The Day/Night cycle is also very nice now that it is working and not making the screen too hard to see.
I have created a group on Starcraft 2 (currently just on Americas I will change that soon) called SoKR. If you like to play SoKR please join it and you can find, talk to, and play with other players that play SoKR. You can also chat to me if you want, that is if I have the time/not too busy.
Sorry about a lack of an update, I have been a little distracted by the release nova covert ops and SC Universe and of course pokemon go :)
Should update the map in a few days
Small update:
Fixed the day/night cycle
New Update!
Things added or fixed
Additional custom textures
Reduced the doodads
Made a crash mark on the ground behind the crashed ship
Added A day/night cycle lighting (not working (tested first time:worked. Changed it. Released. Tested: not working)
Added some minimap things (hopefully you can see your allies vision box)
Things not fixed
! Tips will appear on the right side of the screen and stay for the entire game
! Exiting SoKR may crash starcraft
! If a rescue beacon is destroyed the timer will jump to 300 hours
! The purifier's planet cracker ability never ends
! performance issues
OMG Jayborino made a video of my map! It was made with an old version but was just released!
All right, found few interesting things, and have some ideas that may work out.
- In regards to SC2 crashing/freezing up, my personal experience is that when I start the game solo it would always freeze, but a few games the other day where I joined or hosted a game with other people, the game would end without crash or freezing up. Don't know what's up with it, but this may help with solving the root of the problem.
- This one thing I have not noticed even in the original, but when you go into Advanced Build (V) the Psi Disruptor and the Hive Mind Emulator (I think) both have the same "I" hotkey for building. Or maybe one of them could be an l, but I remember that l didn't let me build anything there.
- If you use the Rescue method to win, the text that comes up still says visit StrandedOnKrydon.com where as Escape and Annihilation methods both says sc2mapster.com
- One thing that was reverted with the latest change is that the starting area has been changed back into the original square-shaped land.
As for the difficulty, I think it will be fine and should come naturally as you stamp out bugs and balance things a bit. Especially once you implement other difficulties, then parts of the game will be harder. Nevertheless, I do have some ideas that could help with the difficulty now and maybe in the future. One of them as mentioned in the earlier post, is the infestation of the critters that make areas that were previously safe dangerous and of hatcheries would auto spawn the infested critters too.
And the other thing, bosses. So if somebody builds a rescue or start the ship, chances are, they have defences to hold off the regular night waves anyway, so the idea is to create a Boss wave to fight off instead of just one lolweaksauce enemy, for instance,
1. Abberation also comes along with 12-24 zerglings (And since we're in LotV expansion, make them Raptor strains or something), along with a queen that moves along with them in similar speed.
2. Ultralisk along with abberations or even Ravagers, their range and corrosive bile will give the boss wave some range.
3. Brutalisk with Mutalisks with the +vs armour damage or the additional bounce upgrade.
4. Leviathan with Guardians or other ground units like Infestors to mix it up for a real battle.
Also, because there is the zerg base in the lower right corner, the direction where the bosses come from is no surprise and predictable. Change it up and have the bosses spawn from a random corner of the map instead, so that you'd have to defend all sides of your base and not just the direction facing the lower-right corner.
Yay I finally fixed the glitch, I re-did everything that i have done since the glitch first occurred. Tell me if i missed out on anything.
Hi everyone,
there is an annoying glitch I have encountered. This glitch is the reason that at one point the screen would go white, then black at night. It also caused the minimal to go black. I figured out what is causing it, but if I try to change it, it will revert back to before I fixed it. To fix this, I have to go back to the version of krydon without the lighting issue and redo all the updates I have done from after that point, so it may be a little while before I release the next update. Also my best friend tells me to make it harder, and get annoyed if I make it easer in any noticeable way. Well anyway the next update should probably be out by max weekend.
Bye

Ok MoonCandies, I have read your feedback!
1 I agree with the temporary solution for the sky pieces
2 the ravager but I do not understand and the supply burrow I will fix.
3 I will fix the corruption ability
4 I will try to fix the muta morphing
5 with the supply depot, I thought I fixed it but I guess not.
6 ok, I will try to fix the transport ship jump.
7 ok I agree with the starting area, I will change that because of a reason I will say in my next post
8 good job with the speed record!
Small update:
Made the volcano better
Changed some unit's models/portraits
P.S. I will respond to you MoonCandies when I get the time, sorry
Well, I am sure having fun with the map, testing and trying out a few more things has unearthed some goodies.
- So anyway, a temporary solution to the Skypiercer's cost could be just writing the costs directly into the description, until a real fix is done.
- Mind controlled Roaches can be morphed into Ravagers, which may or may not be balanced since back in WoL, they did not exist yet. I have not gone out of my way to use them to determine this, but what's worth looking at is that their burrow ability costs 3 supply for whatever reason. If I remember correctly, mind controlled Queens (or maybe it was some other zerg unit) also costs supply to burrow.
- Mind controlled Corruptors can morph into Broodlords just fine, though their corruption ability is rather useless, I have only managed to get a use of it on the Krydonian Needler, but even then it did not disable it or anything, though I think this one may be how corruption has changed throughout the HotS and LotV expansion or something, as I remember an older corruption (or whatever it was called) caused affected unit to take more damage.
- Mind Controlled Mutalisks has ability to morph into Guardian or Devourer, but neither of them work as it always says you need more supply depots even if you have ample supply for them, those can either be removed or implemented into the game depending on how they are balanced.
- Visually, Supply depots don't actually show if they are raised or not, but if they are lowered, units will just appear to be walking through a raised supply depot.
- When the Transport ship warp jump was reimplemented, it was done so that the warp jump occurs immediately, I think it would be good to have the dramatic countdown and swarming zerg drop pods come down all around the ship just like how it was originally. Not that the 30 seconds or so to warp would make a difference since the ship at full health warp jumping is pretty much indestructible, just for the added effect.
- I like how the starting area has been changed, but I do think some of the debris around the ship is really getting in the way of using the starting location for a bit, because of the debris, almost no auto-turrets can be built behind the barricades that you start with. Also that in later game, in really gets cramped especially playing with multiple people trying to build anything because the debris took quite a bit of buildable space away.
The original intent for the middle was to make it a viable strategy even into late game as another way to win, and also helpful for newer players if they need to camp there to get started and survive.
- A fun idea that I thought of, all of the critters around the map always getting in the way, could possibly have the zerg infest them all and attack the players as an attack wave or just something that occurs around maybe 30-40 minutes into the game to make Krydon a bit more dangerous, because the zerg did infest the planet after all (models for infested critters could be the primal zerg models or maybe an neural parasite effect on the creature themselves as an idea).
And on a fun note, I finished my fastest speed run with rescue beacons today: https://s32.postimg.org/q8x6vybp1/Screenshot2016_07_23_22_22_25.jpg (Well, part of that was lucky getting enough supply, then finding Factory, Probe cleared out by Zerg, and Science Facility successively, haha).
small update
@MoonCandies: Go
Ok I'm back from my holiday. Thanks SO much for the feedback, it is the thing I want.
Brief reaction it your feedback:
"Things to look at"
1. Camelhead, thanks I did not know about the glitch.
2. Queen, known but forgot
3. Skypiecer, known trying to fix
4. Known, I it because it was not working anyway.
"Suggestions"
1. I like the idea
2. Ok thanks, I did that as a temporary fix for something someone suggested, I have not gotten around do trying to continue it tho.
3. I am planning on doing more difficulties, easy normal hard brutal
4. I really like the "missile bot" idea! I'm also glad someone else uses/known about the Protoss prove
I hope I get more feedback from you!
I will send you a PM
@MoonCandies: Go
OMG thanks SO much for all that feedback, I really appreciate that! I cannot say much now because I am on a holiday for the weekend. When I get back I will reply (and send you a PM).
Well, I really liked this game back in WoL and I am really glad to see someone pick it up. In fact, I recently made an account just to give some feedback because the game of course, needs polish floating around since WoL.
Things to look at:
1. The Camelhead's building is non existent, it is just a white dome, and even after building, it persists at the base and the Camelhead is also in the uprooted position.
2. During the Zerg Queen wave (Single Player), the queens all move faster than they should even when they are not on creep, not really "slow waddling" queens as the wave description says
3. Sky Piercer's tooltip does not show its mineral, vespene, and supply cost. Also does not show build time, even though there are costs for it.
4. Observers had an attack that used to work for cloaked or burrowed units, this was useful for getting rid of tumours and/or lurkers, the current Observer still has Attack on the command card but does not have the weapon.
Suggestions/Wishlist?:
1. In the original version, even after all Hatcheries were destroyed, the air waves would still spawn from the bottom left corner, I think this would be realistic to add into the game again because Krydon itself is infested, so just because Hatcheries are dead, doesn't mean they cannot keep swarming in from elsewhere.
2. Currently, the Restorers have the same healing aura effect that the crashed landed ship (Ability icon even says crashed ship's restoration field) has, which I don't know if intended or not, but I was playing through last night and thought it was a bit overpowered since you'd have to fix things less and could just leave a lone outpost to self-heal as long as there are towers to kill stuff.
3. As a thought, I think maybe dividing the difficulties into 3 would work, so that you would have: Normal, Veteran, and Brutal. Currently, Normal mode becomes Easy mode once you know what you are doing, and Brutal mode stays brutal because there is quite a huge jump in difficulty as well as being luck-dependent with some where certain resources or structures are spawn.
My thought with a difficulty in between is that maybe this mode will have 1/1 upgrades at the beginning and then past a certain time or player(s) have certain resources or buildings then they would upgrade to 2/2. Brutal mode can just stay 3/3 all the way, while Normal Mode can maybe get upgrades to 1/1 if enough time or conditions pass?
4. I think the game could use an Anti-Air unit for early/mid game, because the units capable of hitting air are Raven (by proxy), Sentry, or Sky Piercers. However, all of these are either late-game or dependent on luck (Probe), and sometimes to get to them, you need to clear out air units, so you are stuck with building towers and then luring air units to deal with them (And Lasgun shot is constrained by energy).
I think maybe adding the goliath or Cyclone (Name it Missile Bot or something) with only an air attack to the Factory would work, because then Factory is your AA production, and Science Facility is your ground attackers. It might be worth a shot to replace Spider Mines from the Factory since I see that they are mostly underused, maybe 1 in every 10 games I would see somebody bother using them.
Well, I can think of these things for now, if I see anything else that may need to be fixed, I will post again, good luck with the map and thanks for bringing this one back!
BTW I have been unable to upload the update to Starcraft 2 sadly.
New update! (just a round up of the recents)

MULEs can harvest vespine (no more auto refineries) (Definitely this time)
maybe fixed mule visual effect of mining
Maybe Big bertha should no longer jump up and down
Maybe there are not two big berthas inside of each other
Improved performance a bit
Added more help/tips in game
Things not fixed
! Performance issues
! not fixed issue where tips appear on the right side of the screen

! not fixed bug where rescue beacon timer can jump to 300 hours.
! not fixed issue where purifier planet cracker ability never ends.
@breakthewind: Go
Thank you so much for your feedback! I did know there was a performance impact, but i did not know that other people got it too, so thanks a lot! I play SoKR with my friend quite often. We use two macs, one new one old. I get to play on the old one and on Brutal at the end game (muta wave and onward) it goes to 1-3 fps! The newer mac has no obvious effect (I have not checked the fps) I will make it one of my top priorities to fix.
If it's ok can I have some more specific details (like mac or pc, graphic settings, when in your game it was low fps and anything else you can think of)
I like it, it's fun. I am getting a huge performance impact tho. It's not unplayable, but I usually get >120 fps in sc2 maps, in yours I get like 30-40 lol. I think that issue should be addressed.
