It seems some people do not like the ogg audio formats of Mass Recall as they produce lossy audio quality. Someone suggested .wav, but this is a completely uncompressed audio format and may generate very large file sizes. If file size is a problem, then I would like to suggest FLAC. It is old, but it is a good balance between quality and compression. It might be a good idea to also consider shipping this on a different site that supports larger then 1GB file sizes.
My original comment regarding this issue prior to the latest update, also suggested FLAC. Again, my issue is with using 'lossy' audio formats that audibly degrade the quality of the original Brood War sounds.
Whether FLAC, WAV, or some other format, as long as it's a 'lossless' audio format, then I'm good. But really, butchering the audio quality is not cool.
OGG is what SC2 uses by default for all the unit sounds. When extracting SC1 sounds, they were all converted to either WAV, MP3 or OGG as well. The SC2 editor only accepts these three formats (haven't heard it accepting FLAC?)That said - I ran some tests between what we had in ogg and wav formats and I didn't really tell any noticeable quality differences. The SC1 audio obviously isn't as high quality back in the 90's as it is today with SC2 sounds, but any loss in quality seems pretty minor to attempt to reconvert every extracted audio to wav (every voice, every effect, every unit, every building, etc). We're talking hundreds of hours easily to re-code that all, so I don't think the gain is worth the requirements or time.
