It would be nice to add some skirmish maps to Mass Recall. I am not saying to add all of them from StarCraft 1/Remastered, but maybe a few of each, like a few 2 player, 3 player, 4 player, etc. StarCraft 2 doesn't really have any skirmish maps, other then maybe the ranked missions with AI.
You're definitely thinking in the right direction. What I really want is to add a true multiplayer function so you can use this mod to play against friends. I'm pretty sure this can be done over Battle.Net, so long as everyone has the mod installed, as each multiplayer map would require the mod.
Researching options...
Well, can the SCMR mod be used for multiplayer the same way skirmish mods are?
Doesn't Starbow kind of do that already?
Anyways, I was thinking more like skirmish maps against AI with different kind of objectives. In SC1, all skrimish was just destroy all enemy units, but maybe every map can have multiple different objective modes. Like 1 mode for the classic destroy all enemy buildings/units, 1 for holding a point (like a king of the hill style), 1 for holding out on a timer (like holding against a infinite wave of enemies, this is my favorite kind of game mode), etc etc.
Here's what I'm thinking we will do (and I'm going to change the subject of this ticket accordingly). There is no possible way for you to play against friends without going through Battle.Net since SC2 removes LAN play against custom maps. However, what Blizzard has done is allow you to upload your custom mods and maps to Melee Multiplayer in the SC2 menu while connected to Battle.Net. While you can't force a map to use the mod you want, you can apply a mod to a map, and then play against friends or AI.
To that end, a new "multiplayer" SCMR mod will need to be created with bare-bones changes to get the file size accepted by Blizzard. The bare bones changes will be only the stuff that is required for play, including all SC1 data changes, builds, sounds, and custom SC1 models that don't exist in the SC2 engine natively. All in all, goes from 500mb+ to 25mb+, so a huge difference.
It should work, and I think the only way to get you to play Brood War in SC2 multiplayer :)
To those who are interested I have figured out how to convert SCMR Into an extension mod. I posted about this on the main Mass Recall thread offering my assistance. There are a couple of small incompatibility problems with LOTV That I have been working to resolve but as it stands the version I have made is 95% working. All the units work correctly the only real issue is a missing Zerg upgrade and a couple of missing Terran upgrades. Protoss seem unaffected. So yes. This is possible without having to make individual maps and it's also possible without needing the Mass recall mod installed. I will continue to work on this and if anyone is interested I can upload my progress onto battle.net publicly this afternoon. I have offered my assistance to the SCMR team in making this happen.
Notes.
Currently starting worker count is off because of lotv so you start off needing supplies but have more workers than normal.
3ish upgrades missing
All units function correctly.
All models work correctly.
The a.i needs build orders but it is still playable as is they just font utilize everything they have yet but it should work near perfect vs another human.
*Edit-
I have posted a rough copy on battle.net it needs work but this is just to show it can be done. It's under extension mods named SCMR Mass Recall Extension
Edit* I was wrong. It turns out that maps need the nova covert ops as a dependency and the nod works perfect. Unfortunately most blizzard maps are set to Liberty by default so I'm going to add a couple of maps that can be used with the extension until I figure out a way around this.
