Starcraft 2: Odyssey Campaign

Introduction
Odyssey is my first attempt at creating a Starcraft 2 project consisting of a multi-act campaign set in the Kardyan Quadrant... far away from the Koprulu Sector. Played from the Terran point of view of Captain Jared Harsh of the Marine Ground Forces: Hell's Rejects, Act I focuses on his struggles throughout the battle-scorned planet Duros III. Act II, on the other hand, is a direct sequel delving deeper into the Kardyan Quadrant and events started in the previous act.
Featuring high-quality terraining with some decent writing accompanying, Odyssey hopes to push forward the storytelling capabilities of a custom campaign with its long-length cutscenes and additional lore to the Starcraft universe. As storytelling alone won't make a videogame, the gameplay, despite not being the true focus, can still present fresh mechanics and unique situations.
Both Acts are comprised of 14 missions each.
How to Install and Play
- Locate the Maps folder inside your Starcraft II installation directory and create within it a folder named Odyssey.
- Place all the missions and launcher files inside it.
- Initiate the Starcraft II editor and then load the launcher file.
- On the editor go to File > Test Document.
- Follow the launcher's instructions and enjoy.

History of the Kardyan Quadrant
Departing from Earth, thousands of Terrans constituted the Second Exodus about ten years after the Exile of the “dissidents” who would come to crash-land on the Koprulu Sector. The members of the Second Exodus eventually arrived at the Kardyan Quadrant where they started expanding and thriving. Colonizing the Earth-like planet of Parsya and declaring it the Capital World, the quadrant became theirs. Over the decades, backwater planets and moons became increasingly aggravated with the burdening taxations employed by the Commerce Guilds of Parsya. Unable to sustain those taxations, the colonists abandoned the Parsyan Collective and settled on remote and poor systems where Parsya had no interests. There, they took the name, Exodian Clans.
The Parsyan government, shaken by the sudden loss of manpower on the outlying planets, deployed a massive funding into the Research Divisions. Such, allowed for the creation of a new artificial intelligence capable of self-learning, far more advanced than the average Adjutant. Built into manlike androids, later called Synthetics, the outlying planets were populated with them to serve as Parsya’s workforce. As their artificial minds were evolved upon with the passing generations, eventually, the Series 3 began showing signs of free-will, being capable of choosing to ignore orders given by humans. The Parsyan Collective, afraid of a possible synthetic rebellion, amassed all its military power under control of seven of the highest-ranking Admirals and Generals, unofficially named, the Steel Council. The amassed power of the Parsyan military became known as the Federation of Warfare, a force to be reckoned with. To their surprise, the Synthetics did not wish ill upon humanity and instead chose to leave Parsyan controlled space much like the Exodian Clans had done decades before. They were never heard from again. Fearing that they would one day change their minds or the possibility of an invasion by the Exodian Clans, Parsya kept expanding the Federation of Warfare and forbade the research into artificial intelligence, and even, the use of Adjutants.
As the decades went by, Parsya outgrew itself in power and economy but also in greed. The unforgivable event later named the Powering Strife led the Federation of Warfare into detaching itself from Parsya and declaring independence under command of Admiral Cassius Rourke who took the mantle of Grand Marshal. Head of the Steel Council and supreme commander of the Federation. The Parsyan Collective, aware of the threat the Federation posed, began sinking its economy into buying the loyalty of some of the Federation’s divisions and commanders and even hiring mercenary armies from the Exodian Clans. The two forces clashed and the Powering Wars lasted for five years, ending with the troubled invasion but inevitable fall of Parsya. At the Post-War Peace Treaty of 2490, it was determined that the surviving Parsyans would be restricted to their crumbled planet in agreement that the Federation could never again set foot there. As the Federation of Warfare became the unchallenged power in the Kardyan Quadrant, ten years of peace flourished.
On the 23rd of March 2500, the miners of the Planet Duros III began a rebellion against the Federation of Warfare for the deplorable conditions they were set to work on. Now, less than forty-eight hours later, the peacekeeping Battlecruisers Heimdall and Pegasus arrive at the planet with orders to restore control.

Special Thanks
To my friend Hélio for creating the Odyssey logo and tempering with the hero icons and to Marco and Vanda for putting up with me when I wouldn't shut up about the story. Also, thanks to JayborinoPlays and DeltronLive for showcasing Odyssey on their youtube channels and to everyone who enjoys this and thinks I'm bothering myself with something cool.
Lastly, a big thank you to the guys from Firestorm Project for their work and effort to translate the whole thing to Russian.
Concerning Donations
The donate button can be found around the upper right area on the top of this page. Donations are entirely optional and won't impact the development of the campaign in any way. They are only meant to serve as a show of appreciation for my work other than reviews.
Cooper when are you planning to release other missions in 2021?
How much hours do we need to finish the part 9 of odyssey?
And I am not in hurry I am just started again so I want to remember previous episode of game so I

These missions take a long time to make and I do lack free time. Mission 9 has been done for quite a while and mission 10 is pretty much only missing the cutscenes. They'll come out as a pack towards the end of December, I hope.
What an amazing map! Thank you for making all of these!
Could I share your map to CN server? I'll indicate that this map is made by you.
Thanks for the compliment, brother.
That's a no on the upload to the CN servers. The files here have differences compared to the ones on the Arcade. They won't do map-to-map loading. I have no idea why Blizzard won't let non-chinese enter the CN servers. Sorry.
When is the other missions of the campaign are coming?
Sadly, still far away. Mission 9 was quite easy to make but mission 10 is being difficult. They'll be out as a pack.
I had 0 luck launching this campaign from the launcher via the editor. Any suggestions for what I did wrong?

I put a copy of all the maps in 2 separate locations just in case it only worked from one of them, but it didn't work from either.
I am logged in inside of the editor. I'm logged in in-game. It brings up the "unable to open map" error regardless of which mission I select, if the game is already running, or whatever else.
(I played the first act via the arcade, but due to larger and more complex missions, and ever decreasing performance, I decided to try to play it from the editor).
I haven't tried opening the maps directly from the editor rather than using the launcher, because I don't want to 'spoil' the level layout / size / scope for myself before playing them.
The method does work but from time to time some people do seem to be unable to play it. You don't need to be logged in and judging from the image you have there, the setup on the first image is the correct one. The usual suspicion is that the player doesn't own all the expansions and it stops the maps from working. Do you own all three Starcraft games plus Nova Covert Ops? If you do, then the only possibility is that something in your PC may be interfering with it. If you enjoyed Act I, getting this to work would be good cause it does run much better through the editor.
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
I do own all the campaigns + covert ops. I was just checking if I missed something obvious, like misspelling Odyssey, despite copying & pasting it from here. Or maybe my default maps directory somehow wasn't jiving with what the game was looking for.
I ended up just looking up the hotkey for test map, loading the map directly into the editor, and closing my eyes while it loads. Not today, spoilers! Thanks for the reply!
I have played through this twice now and this is hands down the best custom campaign, some of the maps amd unique mechanics put WoT, HotS and LotV to shame.
The only downside is having to wait for new maps.
Thanks. If I could make a living out of it, I'd gladly work on it full time and drastically speed up the development pace. Sadly, such is not the case.
Hello i've just started playing this in the Arcade and first of all it looks like there is a lot of work in this I got scared when I saw the exact same start as WOL I was like "oh shit it's the same thing but with dialogs ???" but no damn there is so much good job.
Now the biggest problem i'm facing is the difficulty i'm no stranger to ladder, micro, i've 100%ed all campaigns on brutal with achivements etc...
but god damn the very first level, act 1 01 looks impossible to me or maybe i'm missing something obvious ?
Even with perfect pullback micro and tanking with the 2 heroes I don't get how you can finish it on Brutal.
Just the cummulated dammage output of the entiere map must be twice the total ammount of cummulated HPs you can get..
I reached the end abusing the rewind feature obviously and in a good situation, but there are absolutely no way i'd ever kill the 4 remaining turrets did anybody else win it on Brutal ?
Edit nevermind you can cheese it by killing the objective from below so you can skip some turrets, I had one FULL turret remaining but like 5 hp on both my heroes and 0 units remaining so yeah...
Sorry about that! Vast majority of people do assume that Odyssey will mimic the official campaigns in terms of difficulty and it just doesn't. Casual and Normal are meant to be accessible, Hard to be challenging and Brutal is meant to crush your soul and make love to it in a roughly manner. Despite that, I do know of at least one player who completed all of Act I on Brutal. In my case, I personally completed them on Brutal without the assistance of the Bonus Objective but I am indeed the person who knows the missions the best. So, they are doable, just really really hard. I'd advise to play on Hard but whatever difficulty you choose, it's much better played through the editor. Considerably better framerate and the saving/loading works. Don't let the exaggerated difficulty bum you down. Thanks for not raging like most people do. Good luck!
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
Soul crushing is right. Oh Brutal, you cruel mistress.
Just started playing this recently (after I realised the existence of custom campaigns lol) and I wanted to say that it's so cool how much dedication and effort has gone into this campaign. I just finished Act 1, and the story has been great too, really gives me that brood war kinda feel (as opposed to the more straightforward good guys and bad guys story in base Starcraft 2).
This is the kind of thing I dreamed of making one day as a kid, messing around with rts game editors and coming up with my own plotlines and missions.
The laboratory level (Act 1 Mission 11) in particular was one of the most creative and varied rts levels I've played in a long time, and definitely up there with Blizzard's best.
Thanks for the great content mate, and I'm looking forwards to starting Act II :)
Thanks for that and welcome to custom campaigns. That specific mission was the one that took the longest to make. I do think that the first half of Act II is much better than the first half of Act I. However, if you're playing through the Arcade, keep in mind that the rewind function doesn't agree very well with the Eye in the Sky section of Act II's first mission.
Finished act II mission 8 "lion's den"
I like this campaign just as much as Wings of Liberty (which is hard for a starcraft game). The story and world building is well done, there are familiar things but new ones too. Characters and dialogues feel natural and flow well. Some missions have new mechanics which makes things interesting, you feel like you know how to proceed then a new twist happens.
The hard work and creativity greatly surpasses the work Blizzard has done in the LoTV and Nova campaigns (which dissapointed me), I'm surprised Blizzard didn't tried to hire CooperHawkesOdyssey to join their team
Looking forward to see the rest of the story and how hard can you make me sweat trying to beat those missions in higher difficulties
Thanks for the praise. I think that the best of Act II is easily set in the last four missions still to come. I'd love to make a living developing games but companies don't really hire nobodies whose only achievement in the industry is a custom campaign.
Hey! I've heard lots of fantastic things about this campaign, and I have a few questions about it
1. What are your plans, if any, following the completion of the second act? If the parallel to SC2 goes all the way, there will be a third, and I prefer to play campaigns, especially good ones, start to finish; so if that's true I guess I'll be waiting awhile.
2. Is it a terran campaign entirely? If so, are there unit unlocks like the main campaigns? Sorry if this one is obvious, I've never played a custom campaign before and so I don't know what tools are available to developers.
1. I only work on Odyssey in my spare time and there is an Act III plotted out for years, so, this is still about 3 to 4 years away from being finished. I just lack the time and make the terrain way too detailed. I'd suggest you just give it a try to see if it gets you hooked. If it doesn't, you don't need to wait and can simply try out other campaigns. There's loads of them to explore and it's all about keeping in mind that they're done by amateurs or semi-professionals out of love to the game and not to make money.
2. Odyssey is a Terran focused campaign even though it's got three or more missions where Zerg are playable. There's no optional unlocks and what you do in a mission won't influence the next ones. It's possible but my knowledge on the editor isn't enough to know how to do stuff like that. To compensate, every mission has an optional objective which, if completed, awards an instant reward. The nature of that reward changes considerably from mission to mission and in some missions that reward is the coolest aspect to them like being able to disable the artificial gravity on a space platform.
Thanks for the interest and welcome to the world of custom campaigns.
