Starcraft 2: Odyssey Campaign

Introduction
Odyssey is my first attempt at creating a Starcraft 2 project consisting of a multi-act campaign set in the Kardyan Quadrant... far away from the Koprulu Sector. Played from the Terran point of view of Captain Jared Harsh of the Marine Ground Forces: Hell's Rejects, Act I focuses on his struggles throughout the battle-scorned planet Duros III. Act II, on the other hand, is a direct sequel delving deeper into the Kardyan Quadrant and events started in the previous act.
Featuring high-quality terraining with some decent writing accompanying, Odyssey hopes to push forward the storytelling capabilities of a custom campaign with its long-length cutscenes and additional lore to the Starcraft universe. As storytelling alone won't make a videogame, the gameplay, despite not being the true focus, can still present fresh mechanics and unique situations.
Both Acts are comprised of 14 missions each.
How to Install and Play
- Locate the Maps folder inside your Starcraft II installation directory and create within it a folder named Odyssey.
- Place all the missions and launcher files inside it.
- Initiate the Starcraft II editor and then load the launcher file.
- On the editor go to File > Test Document.
- Follow the launcher's instructions and enjoy.

History of the Kardyan Quadrant
Departing from Earth, thousands of Terrans constituted the Second Exodus about ten years after the Exile of the “dissidents” who would come to crash-land on the Koprulu Sector. The members of the Second Exodus eventually arrived at the Kardyan Quadrant where they started expanding and thriving. Colonizing the Earth-like planet of Parsya and declaring it the Capital World, the quadrant became theirs. Over the decades, backwater planets and moons became increasingly aggravated with the burdening taxations employed by the Commerce Guilds of Parsya. Unable to sustain those taxations, the colonists abandoned the Parsyan Collective and settled on remote and poor systems where Parsya had no interests. There, they took the name, Exodian Clans.
The Parsyan government, shaken by the sudden loss of manpower on the outlying planets, deployed a massive funding into the Research Divisions. Such, allowed for the creation of a new artificial intelligence capable of self-learning, far more advanced than the average Adjutant. Built into manlike androids, later called Synthetics, the outlying planets were populated with them to serve as Parsya’s workforce. As their artificial minds were evolved upon with the passing generations, eventually, the Series 3 began showing signs of free-will, being capable of choosing to ignore orders given by humans. The Parsyan Collective, afraid of a possible synthetic rebellion, amassed all its military power under control of seven of the highest-ranking Admirals and Generals, unofficially named, the Steel Council. The amassed power of the Parsyan military became known as the Federation of Warfare, a force to be reckoned with. To their surprise, the Synthetics did not wish ill upon humanity and instead chose to leave Parsyan controlled space much like the Exodian Clans had done decades before. They were never heard from again. Fearing that they would one day change their minds or the possibility of an invasion by the Exodian Clans, Parsya kept expanding the Federation of Warfare and forbade the research into artificial intelligence, and even, the use of Adjutants.
As the decades went by, Parsya outgrew itself in power and economy but also in greed. The unforgivable event later named the Powering Strife led the Federation of Warfare into detaching itself from Parsya and declaring independence under command of Admiral Cassius Rourke who took the mantle of Grand Marshal. Head of the Steel Council and supreme commander of the Federation. The Parsyan Collective, aware of the threat the Federation posed, began sinking its economy into buying the loyalty of some of the Federation’s divisions and commanders and even hiring mercenary armies from the Exodian Clans. The two forces clashed and the Powering Wars lasted for five years, ending with the troubled invasion but inevitable fall of Parsya. At the Post-War Peace Treaty of 2490, it was determined that the surviving Parsyans would be restricted to their crumbled planet in agreement that the Federation could never again set foot there. As the Federation of Warfare became the unchallenged power in the Kardyan Quadrant, ten years of peace flourished.
On the 23rd of March 2500, the miners of the Planet Duros III began a rebellion against the Federation of Warfare for the deplorable conditions they were set to work on. Now, less than forty-eight hours later, the peacekeeping Battlecruisers Heimdall and Pegasus arrive at the planet with orders to restore control.

Special Thanks
To my friend Hélio for creating the Odyssey logo and tempering with the hero icons and to Marco and Vanda for putting up with me when I wouldn't shut up about the story. Also, thanks to JayborinoPlays and DeltronLive for showcasing Odyssey on their youtube channels and to everyone who enjoys this and thinks I'm bothering myself with something cool.
Lastly, a big thank you to the guys from Firestorm Project for their work and effort to translate the whole thing to Russian.
Concerning Donations
The donate button can be found around the upper right area on the top of this page. Donations are entirely optional and won't impact the development of the campaign in any way. They are only meant to serve as a show of appreciation for my work other than reviews.
Hey.. I love this campaign. My favorite. But I have one small observation.
Tipically in original and some custom campaigns, the Terrans are color Red, Blue or White; Protoss , Purple and Blue; and Zerg, purple or brown or red. While there a lot of unused colors that are available in multiplayer. For example you could use blue for the zerg, and more brown terrans, even adding some unused decals.
I tried doing that on your maps, for my personal use, with no success.
I know I will enjoy it even more.
Thank you.
CooperHawkesOdyssey,
I would just like to take a moment to say that I am a huge fan of the Odyssey missions and I really hope you make Act II. The Odyssey campaign is almost as good as the main SC2 Campaign, but if you take into account that blizzard has a huge development team then that makes the Odyssey campaign much more impressive as it was done by one person. Well enough blabing about how good the Odyssey missions are, I would like to move on to the main reason i am writing this.
I would like to get into making maps in SC2, but i don't know how to work the map editor. Is there some way we could get in contact so that you could help me learn the map editor? If that does not work could you create a series of youtube tutorials on how to use the map editor? if neither of those options work do you know of any good youtube tutorials for the map editor, if so could you please point me to them? Doing any of these would be a massive help as i know next to nothing about the SC2 map editor. Thanks!

My soul is hurt. Odyssey is far superior to the base SC2 campaigns. Have to throw that out there.
Hey, Azhei.
I actually started Odyssey after watching the tutorial in the Heart of the Swarm behind the scenes DVD so I basically went from zero knowledge on the editor to starting Odyssey in the space of a few hours. Jumped into it without creating test maps or failed experiments. Learn as you go is very much the name of the game.
I seriously lack the time to create tutorial videos but wouldn't be good at it if I did. Despite enjoying my own work I'm not that good in the technical parts. Most of Odyssey lags a lot and the triggers are more complex and prone to break than they should be. I also use triggers to do things that should be done solely by the data module because said data module is the work of the devil and the world doesn't have enough holy water to make me understand that shit.
As for tutorials on Youtube, there's lots but I've always known Deltron's ones:

Shameless plug about being willing to handle data work.In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
Thank you for your help I hope to be making my own stuff soon. And again, I really hope you continue with the odyssey series.
Thanks, Azhei
In reply to azhei_:
Will be interesting to see what you can come up with. Good luck with your enterprises.
However. Bit of advice? Start small. Don't do what I did and try and go big like Odyssey. Build your way there, don't try and start at the finish.
OH MY GOD, NEW UPDATE!!!!
I planned to play through this masterpiece again.
And now there's one more reason... so it's 1001 reasons to do it.
Seriously, who haven't tried it yet - do it right now. No excuses.
The madman did it. The Mega Pack. It's here. As I foretold.
Hello, CooperHawkesOdyssey!
I'm MCV from Firestorm Project. I'm sure you don't know about us, but it's OK x D
We are group of Russian enthusiasts, who translate Starcraft 2 Custom Campaigns to Russian language. We have already translated some of them, like Edhriano's "Noir" series, WingedArchon's "Time Splitters" and Daequeous's "Scattered". And now I'm sure you already get why we are here, but can I say some words about ur campaign, please? x D
You have done a fantastic job, mate. No, really — maybe you heard it like one hundred times, and you think like "OK, what will u say next?" — but your campaign is completely amazing, for real! Awesome gameplay, perfect plot — and fantastic cinematics! Man, your mission 13 end cinematic is the best in entire SC2, my friend from Firestorm even told me "This cinematic is more StarCraft than StarCraft itself"!
Odyssey was the first full-scale custom campaign that I've met in SC2 Arcade. And I was so amazed by it, that I made a decision — translate Odyssey to Russian language to make it understandable for Russians, who don't know English.
For now we have translated all 14 missions + launcher, but they still need to be edited and polished. And we have a couple of questions to you:
1. Would you make a link for downloading Russian version of Odyssey, or even put RU version into files in the Odyssey page at SC2Mapster?
2. Also, if you would, what about Odyssey in Battle.net? We can send RU version to you, and you will upload it to SC2 Arcade, but I'm sure you are going to make Act II, don't you? ( ^^ )
As I know you have limit for uploaded maps weight, so can I upload RU version to Battle.net by myself? Of course, I will note that I've only translated this thing, and it's created by you, don't worry ^^
3. Do you have the Odyssey logo without background? We need to translate the "Odyssey" in logo, and I can get it myself from the launcher import files, but it would not be so proper as get this logo from you ^^
The same about mission loading screenshots - do you have them without Odyssey logo? It would be pain in the ass to remake those screenshots if u don't have them.
Lastly - please, make Act II ( x D ). Come on man, decision to end such a good story on all that we already got would break my heart ( Not literally ^^ ). So please, make the next part, I'm dying to see mission 1 ( And not only one ) of Act II, "Of Pain and Sorrow" if I'm correct x D
We will be waitng for your answer, mate.
Thanks for the praise and effort. You've done something that I could never do myself as my knowledge of Russian is limited to до свидания.
There's no need to upload more files to Sc2mapster or Battle.net. Once you think that those missions are fully prepared in Russian, just send them to me and I'll extract the locale from them and add it to my files. No need for different versions. The mission files can carry both languages. As for the logo, I'd say not to bother with it. It's the original title and it should be left in English. I'm Portuguese myself and if I ever wanted to translate to Portuguese I would still leave the logo in English.
Lastly, as for Act II, I started a map for it a year ago and it's been like that since. I can however say that mission 1 is now called Invasion Day and not Of Pain and Sorrow.
Ура братья.
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
Hello, this is Admonitor from Firestorm Project, and I'm that MCV's friend who told that the cinematic of the 13 mission is more StarCraft than StarCraft itself)
Right now I'm finishing the final edit of campaign's texts. They'll be fully completed in a matter of 1-2 days and sent to you in private messages. Don't miss ;)
We also understand and accept your opinion about the logo, but what about the title of the Act I in mission launcher? "Requiem for Duros III". The same about "History of Kardyan Quadrant".
Should it be left in English too? That's not a problem if logo will stay original, because "StarСraft" is changeless on all languages too, but the title of the act seems a bit erratic near Russian titles for missions. And it is the part of the picture, so translated title can't be placed without putting on clear original screen.
Of course, if you mind, we'll leave it without change too.
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
Well, united RU and original version into one map is good decision, but you will face some problems:
1) In 12 mission you have an easter egg — inscription like "Thanks for playing" in top left corner. We have translated this thing too like "Спасибо за игру", but if you will unite both versions, I'm afraid this thing will not be translated into Russian, which is quite sad, because the StarCraft 2 localization team translated like literally EVERYTHING, even the bullet caliber at WoL cinematic, which happens rarely even in AAA games.
2) From 7 mission I have started making like 30-50% of all dialogues a little bit slower by adding +2-5 seconds to each phrase, because Russian language requires more letters then English for same line. And, we had not the best choice — not changing timings of dialogues, but losing a lot of important things, or change timings, but don't lose any word in dialogues. In our opinion, second decision was better x D
3) You have a little bit strange import mechanic. You don't just put files into map and use them, you put them in enUS.SC2Data/LocalizedData, which works normally if map have only 1 language, but if you'll make localization, for another language, all import images will transform into white rectangles, and audio files won't work. So, you may add like ruRU.SC2Data/LocalizedData with all those files but in another folder, (note that map weight gonna become larger in 2 times), or you will import those files like another mapmakers — without regions x D
And some minor problems: the History of Kardyan Quadrant text on Russian was longer, than on English, so we have increased the size of dialogue. OK, this is Launcher, what can be wrong in battlenet version? — but the dialogue when mission starts, like "Choose Your Odyssey", also was too small for Russian version, so we have increased its size too. And, lastly — in 14 mission at the end there was "Note from author", from you, and dialogue with this text was too small for Russian version too, so we have increased its size x D
Also 14 mission have loading screen with English texture-text "Docking Bay". To translate this, we need to remake the screenshot with Russian-localized texture.
14 mission has another problem — you import the Horner Camera from secret WoL mission instead of using this camera in editor files like in previous missions, and the problem is: the editor version translated into all SC2 languages, but import version is only in English, so we put editor camera instead of imported one.
In my opinion, it'll be better to separate original and RU version of campaign, because keeping them united is very difficult task, but its your campaign, your maps — so the choice is yours ^^
Oh, dear... you guys are really going into detail! Continue on private messages.
When Odyssey has become a classic and most classics have to be 20 years old at a minimum.
I can already see the commercial: "Odyssey! Redefining standards!"
A classic?! Wouldn't go that far but thanks.
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
Well, when people talk about the classics of their day, they really talk about what defined that industry at the time. What was most innovative, creative and interesting, and what got people's attention.
Odyssey has definitely defined what can be done in SC2 and has proved to be highly innovative, the story was interesting, unique, creative and emotionally meaningful, and it got a lot of peoples attention.
Odyssey truly has hit all the marks of what it takes to be a classic, it just hasn't been around long enough to be one.
In reply to CooperHawkesOdyssey:
I really loved playing the odyssey campaign and i would love to see a sequel to my favorite custom SC2 campaign.
PS
If I am being a derp and there actually is a sequel I would love to know.
Just finished playing Act I, it was amazing. I have only one criticism, where is Act II, pleeeeease. Really well done, I really loved that there were other characters besides just the few heroes and different Soldiers had different Names. You really have put much work into this mod. Thanks.
Thanks for the compliment, mate.
