SC1 Remake - Terran Campaign
Slowly but surely, I'm recreating all of the original StarCraft Terran Campaign missions in no particular order. New maps, new textures, fresh look, original sounds, original decals, original Tech Tree with some variants, new secondary objectives to give the missions more substance and hopefully make it more challenging. Enjoy, and please, feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Changes: 08/09/2010
- Urgent: Need someone good with dialogs to take a look at my briefing triggers and help me figure out why the Replay button isn't working exactly as it should!
- Added T02 - Backwater Station mission; please test and let me know if you find any bugs or any balance issues!
u forgot 2 more bugs: -always nobody use heros in battles so i Couldn't get the second base until i realized that raynor must get there
-in the first base i couldnt build a refinery because of a rock
I forgot to include my comments about Backwater Station. Actually, not much to say here, except for a few things:
- The opening dropship doesn't disappear after reaching the screen's edge.
- The rescue objective, while a welcome addition, feels a bit out of the blue and rehashed. What exactly happened? Why did that transport crash? My advice is that you should change it for some kind of outpost, and make it so we can't reach it before getting to Backwater. Also, the survivors appear to be invincible, which kinda ruins the whole idea of this objective being secondary. Maybe you should have some kind of time limit before they get overwhelmed or something.
- I fail to see the relevance of putting a Virophage on this map. Why not just using a Creep tumor instead?
Good effort overall, but...
- The difficulty is laughable. Not only do you start with a big mineral field, a more than decent force and base, but the lack of bridges between islands greatly limits battle strategies: all you have to do is put a couple of bunkers and turrets here and there and the AI won't be bothering you too much. In the original mission, it would harass you with mass siege tanks, nukes and stuff; here, save for a few wraith skirmishes, mostly doomed drops and a lone battleship, not much happens.
- Too many minerals, not enough vespene. Since this is mostly an air-only map, the lack of geysers really hurt.
- Raynor is useless. Yeah, he was there in the original mission, but in all honesty, did you ever bother use him? SC1's heroes were annoying, because they usually were too weak to be of real use. If your aim is to improve the campaign, getting rid of heroes whose presence is non-critical to the plot would be a great start. Or give Raynor the Hyperion.
- For some reason, my tanks couldn't get up the ramp near Red Base. They kinda got stuck on some invisible obstacle.
- The Ion Cannon is a bit too well protected, now that it can fire back and one-hit kill pretty much anything.
- You can still research Cloaking for Banshees. The research icon appears after you select Wraith's cloaking update.
That said, lots of nice touches, especially in the briefing and with the rearranged tech tree. Very impressive.
@TerranHegemon
Hey thanks, I won't bite his maps because I'd rather redo them myself and hopefully improve on them... :) but I am going to steal the sounds! lol The ones I downloaded play too low in game, and I've done everything I can think of to try to amplify them, including editing the sound files themselves.
I'll probably morph this project into a whole SC1 remake... slowly but surely.
If you're going to do the whole Terran campaign, I suggest you check out Ultraling's long lost project. He finished it but the editor broke a lot of things. Maybe you can get some ideas, use it as a base for your recreation, or simply fix all the bugs and release.

And yeah, I'm pretty interested in playing through the SC campaign in new graphics, I was never a big fan of PVP and I just finished the SC2 campaign... for the 5th time. Good luck
@Exaken: hm. Not even sure why that was changed, lol Fixed.
@TerranHegemon:
Thanks for the feedback. Does this seem like something you'd be interested in playing through? I don't think the "SC1 Remake Team" is active anymore, so I was going to start from scratch at the Bootcamp level of SC1 and redo the whole Terran campaign... if there's enough interest for it.
PS: the download file was updated yesterday, did you get the new version? The pathing should have been fixed in the newest file.
If you give the player a siege tank and goliaths, shouldn't he already have a factory? And at the left base where there is a entrance with a sign that says Real Men Drill Deep, my units can't pass it(I used Jim Raynor in a vulture bike trying to get out of the base through that ramp but couldn't).
And just a suggestion, you should change Raynor's unit. His unit type is only used for scouting and harrasing rather than in direct combat(since you'll lose if he dies). And because there are only orbital platforms with a small area, it negates his effectiveness. Either that or you should completely get rid of the platforms and use a single one. Oh and increase the volume on the unit dialogues, it's hard to hear them and when they talk, display a portrait of them too.
Good remake. But for level 1 infantry armor in need armory and the upgrade itself.
Nice dude, finally, someone remakes SC... Can't wait to try it out today, I'll keep you updated as i play
