Curse Client 3.0 Release
I just wanted to take out a few moments and let everyone know that friday we released the 3.0 client to our entire userbase. It's been a long time coming, but I feel it fixes the majority of issues people have raised.
Some of the highlights:
- Redesigned User Interface
- More accurate addon identification
- Revaluated Defaults settings
- More features (including whether or not to use embedded libraries)
- Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements
Not only that but....
Mac Client 3.0 Beta Release!
We managed to get you a mac client beta out on Friday as well! This was a personal victory for me as I'm now actively working on the code for the mac client. In addition to the above changes we are happy to announce that updates are now done through Sparkle (same update mechanism used by Adium, Textmate and many other mac apps).
We are still in beta here as wxWidgets' implementations can drastically differ on mac vs pc, as a result we're working hard to iron out issues, and will be putting out updates all this week until we're at a more stable point.
However, there are a few...
Known Issues
Upload mistakes
Over the last week we've had a few authors mistakenly upload either the wrong file or files with invalid layouts that have caused the client's fingerprinting to mistake people's folders for the wrong addon.
Two known examples of this are Ace3 and Auctioneer getting flagged as Tournament Realm Spy and epgp. We've fixed it server side however the client won't just 'forget'. You'll need to remove the false match and in some cases reinstall the new correct match.
Mac Issues
- A crash that can happen on load in the sort routine
- A soft crash where the client stops displaying data and buttons fail to do anything
- Menu options being decidedly 'unmacish'
when will the client finally be digitally signed?
PPC is on our list of things we'd like to support, as is 10.4 users, but as of right now we're focusing on bug fixes and polish.
Just got an automated update of the new Mac Client and it is FABULOUS.. ZOMG I feel like m client is now as good or even better then the Windows one.. FANTASTIC job.. just FANTASTIC.
Are there any plans to support PPC anytime in the near future?
Thanks for getting the Mac beta out.
Honem: Yes, we're currently testing placement on the website, as well as planning future placement in the client.
Karaste :)
I *hug* you very hard. Glad to see a new version to play around with. :) -k
Kaelten I'm sorry if this has been addressed before but ....
In light of Blizzard's new UI policy would you be able to put a "Donate" button besides each addon a user has when they load up the Curse Client.
That way they can still have the convenience of a program that checks all their addons for update and also giving them a easy way to donate to the authors. It would also very extremely visible so it's and advantage for the authors to :D
EDIT : Reading through threads I see your already discussing more visibility for Authors and their donate buttons. I'll leave this comment here for you as a suggestion :D
Glad you like it, yeah I know the wording is off in several places. We're also working on fixing the white display issues. :)
Thank you for not giving up on us Mac users. Aside from some references to Windows in a couple places, the new client is actually far better then I expected. I have seen the bug where my list of mods disappears and I have to reload the client. But I figure that is because I have it pointing at both my main wow folder for my normal mods and a separate WoW folder for PTR related mods.
In any case, great job.. I was waiting to see what you where working on and I was not disappointed.
We're going to be taking away the free premium from everyone in a few weeks on the PC version, the mac users will continue to receive the preview until it's out of beta and stable.
I have the 3.x version since 3 weeks ago or so. Has this something to do with my status as a premium user?
I said this already on the 2.x news, but I think you can't say something like that not often enough - you guys are doing an excellent job on the Client! Thanks a lot for all the hard work. :-)
Greetz.
