posted a message on Steam have now steamworkshop. Pay for mods. When blizzard gonna wake up ?!?!

There are two kinds of gamers. Gamers with money, and gamers with time.

Gamers with money are the ones who invest money in free to play games to save time, because they don't have a large excess of it. Gamers with time are the ones without much or any access to funds, directly, and have the time to voice their opinions regularly online.

When the idea of paying for mods came up in the skyrim community, the gamers with time, and no direct access to money, are the ones to speak up and voice their opinions. There are many of them, and they likely makeup the majority of the hardcore playerbase of skyrim, but they don't makeup the majority of the players overall.

This means that the majority of the feedback being read is from one side.

Donations are a very poor solution, this community has taught me that. The primary reason that the vocal ones in the Skyrim community suggest this as a solution is because they think it's a nice compromise, but they themselves won't ever donate anything and don't know the reality behind a donate button like this community does.

Having paid mods is a fantastic opportunity for not only the modder, but for the gamer too. The average gamer might not realize the potential until something great comes from a paid mod system. It's an undeniable fact that having more time to put into a project will result in the potential for far bigger and better mod projects. The majority of modders I know do it on the side while holding a job or going to school. Having the opportunity to work on a mod full time impacts the end result greatly. Something like StarCraft Universe wouldn't be happening without the funding it got from it's Kickstarter, at least not as ambitious of a version.

It boggles my mind that so many within the modding community don't support something like this. No one is forcing you to take advantage of the system if it were to ever exist, but to be completely against it is to deny there is any good potential from such a system, which makes no sense to me.

Try to set the dialog item with the model to not accept clicks (It's a trigger action)

Also, as for the UI behind it, you could hide the game UI while this effect is in play. That could potentially be a gameplay mechanic since it would hinder the player.

Also, you need to take what someone else said about drug references seriously. If it's against the rules it's only a matter of time before it's taken down after it's published.

posted a message on [Paid] Carbot's "StarCrafts Mod" Data Editor Assistant Position

Many things will be unchanged, but many things are different as well. For example, one walk animation is sufficient for a 3d model since it can turn 360 degrees, but when you're animating walking for a 2d unit, you've got multiple walk animations, so duplicate actor data does not suffice for this.

The same thing goes for attacking and other things. Different animations will play based on facing whereas a 3d model can play the same animation and face the correct direction.

Hey everyone! In case you're reading this and aren't aware that Carbot is working on a map, check out the video here to get a general idea of what is being worked on. http://kotaku.com/mod-turns-starcraft-ii-into-a-cute-cartoon-1638989461

The inital goal of the project is to recreate the Melee multiplayer game with all Carbot units.

What I'm looking for is someone who is a data editor who compliments the team. You would help ensure that things are being done in a way that won't cause issues down the road (performance or otherwise), and to make sure that things are being implemented as efficiently and time effectively as possible. You would also be the go-to guy for data related questions when roadblocks come up, and would commonly implement data editor solutions.

This will be a paid position assuming the crowd-funding campaign is a success. We are working on a demo to release alongside the crowd-funding campaign. All work on the demo should be considered voluntary (unpaid) and will be the time during which I decide who is best suited for the position.

Anyone interested should should feel relatively comfortable with:

    • Actor Event driven animations
    • Attachments
    • Site ops
    • Effects
    • Validators
    • Making custom units

If you have experience with the SC2 ArtTools that's a plus too, but not necessary knowledge for this position.

If you are interested in this position reply below or PM me and feel free to ask questions too.

SearchingChicken: I would recommend looking up some psycological terminology such as "projecting yourself on others" and see if you can maybe learn something about yourself and why you speak to others the way you do.

If you simply enjoy bringing what most perceive as toxicity and negativity to the community, you won't make many friends and likely won't last long here again. I don't state this as a threat, but as a matter of fact in an effort to open your eyes in hopes that you take this opportunity to become a better person. The responsibilities of the moderators are to do what they can to keep the community positive/enjoyable and a place that is welcoming to new mapmakers. If individuals in the community are perceived as toxic, argumentative, or negative, this plays a part in significantly stunting the site and community's growth far more-so than in most communities due to the fact that there is little to no documentation for the editor, and personal learning is crucial (a.k.a.: being a part of communities like sc2mapster) to becoming a good mapmaker.

Any justifications for behavior such as this are unfortunately irrelevant as you are solely held responsible for your own attitude towards others.

Please discuss your plans for the marketplace. It's been half a decade since it was announced. I've personally made a lot of sacrifices to get good with the editor in the meantime and hold on this long. Last I heard from Browder in an interview was that it was likely going to be coming at about the time of LotV's release. Not knowing any details or having anything set in stone makes it hard to create a dedicated team, let alone keeping them motivated. Not having anything solid to show family makes it even harder for them to support us as well.

I know I'm not alone in this as I've heard stories from others too. Some are in embarassing situations where their families think they are fools for holding on, others are professionals forced to leave the community because they have investors who need to see a return on their investments.

I think Blizzard's policy of "It's done when it's done" and keeping quiet in general is a great strategy when it deals with releasing games, but not with something like the marketplace that, instead of providing entertainment value, we're talking about people's career choices and quality of life being affected.

Hey, I just got in the Alpha yesterday. There's no editor and there's no MPQ files to extract data from unfortunately. There's two 1GB files that are simply called data.000 and data.001.

I tried ignoring their filename extensions and attempted to open them with ladik's MPQ editor and they didn't open, so either they really aren't MPQs or they are an updated format not compatible with sc2 compatible MPQ editors. =/

Greats stuff. I think your windmill map is broken too because the windmills' spinny parts are all facing the same direction and not moving while the base of them are all facing different directions.

I wonder what would happen if blizzard found out about this.

    They do know.

    Quote from Draktok: Go

I simply don't enjoy the game enough to donate. There's a whole lot of sitting there watching your money go up and not a whole lot of actually enjoying the game, so meh.

    Also, 18k? That's how much i make in a year : (

I completely agree, there's a LOT of downtime just sitting there and if this whole thing is successful you can kiss that downtime goodbye. We're not asking for funding to pay us for the work that's already gone into the game, we're asking for money so we can take it above and beyond where it is now.

    Quote from GlornII: Go

It does seem a little off-the-wall for a sc2 map kickstarter, especially since the money is going to the people who edit a game that they didnt make (though they did a lot of work on) as opposed to the normal "paying for production costs" it is "paying us to continue what we would do anyway."

We won't be making these improvements to the game without the kickstarter, so it's not a matter of us getting paid to do something we would anyway. I should probably make that more clear.

    Quote from Eiviyn: Go

I didn't know that Squad TD and Mineralz had the same developers.

I just joined Squad TD in late 2012. None of my work is currently represented in the released version of Squad TD.

    Quote from Zolden: Go

    @Eiviyn: Go

Minerals was developed definitely not by the creator of Squad TD. It's just Vindicator joined both maps' teams as UI guy, and now uses this fact to make an impression of experienced and relyable mapper that involved in cool maps development.

UI is indeed what I'm most interested and capable in as well as design, but others consider me competent elsewhere too.

    Quote from willuwontu: Go

    @Zolden: Go

I still think squad TD has a horrible UI XD

So do I! That's why I joined to improve it :) As stated above none of my work is represented in the released version of Squad TD.

posted a message on Hardcore Veteran Looking For Paid Position

Hi! My name's Wade and I go by Vindicator in the community. It seems that paid positions are starting to become more common so I wanted to let any potential recruiters know that I am currently on the lookout for a paid position.

I've been using the editor since day 1 during WoL beta.
I'm currently recreating UI for Squadron TD (#1 top rated/top played Arcade game in NA) and I also publish Mineralz Evolution which has been ranked between 1 and 25 for the past couple years. Please inquire for a more detailed list of maps I've worked on.

My strengths, in order of competence, include:
-Game Design (Wondering why simple games like Nexus Wars are front page material? I can teach you.)
-Custom UI (We're not talking about moving existing UI around, we're talking completely custom here.)
    -Triggers
    -Data

I also have contacts with people in the AAA game industry whom I can license music from.
If you're interested in some competent help, PM me on Skype: WadeWazenegger
Either way, good luck with your mapping endeavors!
