So far so good with the project. It doesn't have a name yet, but this all started with one idea on the ideas/suggestions thread and has grown to become an actual project, though for now we've stuck to private messages until some concrete progress can be shown. The goal is to gather up various mapmakers across mapster to come and add their contribution to the project. We're currently taking a hands-off approach and only building one level at a time, no ambitious plans to be had. With each mission, we're alternating mapmakers; a new content creator can contribute their level or even several content creators can group together to contribute a level, whatever you want. The point is, we're trying to get other content creators out there to contribute and so far we've got 2 mapmakers and we need more.
I suggest also taking this over to the teamliquid forums. It's got a very big melee map-making community and it's pretty competitive over there, you'd learn a lot really quickly. Mapster leans a little more towards the arcade style of maps. I'll give it a go.
I wouldn't want these hybrid to act like babies, so I'm avoiding the newborn idea, but I am allowing for a sense of naive nature. These characters don't understand the cultures or factions of others, only that they're friendly or unfriendly. In terms of speech especially, these guys are at the same level as any other species out there, just look at Maar.
Personally, I think the hybrid should gather allies instead and use them as the source of macro and the hybrid could come from the main structure or some separate structure that produces hybrid specific units. Obviously some of the hybrid will be given to the player instead, but it's up to future contributors. I, personally, enjoy playing and making commando/installation missions the most and that's what I've studied and it's what I excel at. If I were to contribute with additional levels, I'd make those.
So far with the way that I've taken the story and how I think it'll influence future contributors is that the hybrid, no longer under the control of Amon, now have a sense of freedom. With their newly discovered freedom, I think the hybrid feel the need to maintain that feeling and I doubt they would enslave another race any time soon. Some among them may have lingering Amon culture, so it's Subject 1115's job to keep them in line, but who knows how long that will last...
Like stated before, we're doing only one level at a time, taking our time. I see nothing ambitious about it. Progress is also being made, so I see nothing wrong there either. I get the reality check, but can we please, from this point forward, just keep it to finding mapmakers who are interested? Thank you.
Yes, I'm handling almost all data work in the mod file. Only a couple things specific to this map will be done in the map's data.
Edit: What's interesting about this whole thing is I don't know where the story is going to go, so I'm keeping it real mysterious over here, keeping to the facts of sc2, no reveals yet. Probably a good idea anyway, but for example, I have no clue as to what allies Subject 1115 will be gathering apart from other hybrid. Surely there's not enough hybrid to make them any more than just heroes and major units, right?

The first level is nearing completion. Is anyone interested in working on the second level?
We've got a nice group here so far that helps each other out, provides feedback, and can help polish up your map. We just need more mappers.

Great idea. My map will be finished tomorrow minus the testing and polish.

The first level is now 35% done not counting polish.

Note: The name of the character has significance, it marks the date when the project was started.

Sure, absolutely.

Normally, I'm not the one to do the organizing of things, so I'm sitting out this one while I build. :)
Edit: You made the thread, nice.
