Starmap models were apparently inserted in the game files at one point or another. They can be used with cameras to get a pretty nice view of the planets. There also a broodlord portait in here for additional concept ideas.
Note: If you havent explored the game models yet, the actual planets are teeny tiny, smaller than a zergling with a huge hemisphere backdrop for stars and a flat square for detailed backdrops. I also didnt take the time for the views to be perfect, just enough so that it fills up the screen.
Another note: With this method, one could make a psuedo-starmap with these models placed somewhere secluded in a corner and the use of dialogs. You could also get screen-sized portaits for anything you might desire, like a story or hero selection. (flip through faces until you reach the hero you want to use, or something like that.
- Updated with Monlyth which was quite odd, it has an duplicate directly behind it which cannot be seen when looked at with the intended lighting
The infested terrans that you spawn either need a movement speed increase or a longer duration. They are useless as soon as someone walks 20 feet away from them.
The SC2 Dota map, as mentioned above, is uploaded onto battle.net with a clear -beta- tag on it and is being tested. All it takes is a little popularity boosting to get it played and tested.
Well, with the latest patch the viking portrait animates when switching viking modes, making them share the same portait. When using transmissions, i set the portrait to an air viking, but the trans shows the ground mode portrait.
Yes the air viking has the air mode portrait when clicked.

Everyone knows that blizz forums are a cesspool. In case you didnt even bother to read the full blue post, Blizzard's reasoning:
"The official forums have always been a great place to discuss the latest info on our games, offer ideas and suggestions, and share experiences with other players however, the forums have also earned a reputation as a place where flame wars, trolling, and other unpleasantness run wild. Removing the veil of anonymity typical to online dialogue will contribute to a more positive forum environment, promote constructive conversations, and connect the Blizzard community in ways they haven’t been connected before. With this change, you’ll see blue posters (i.e. Blizzard employees) posting by their real first and last names on our forums as well."

There are starmap planet models in the files now, but they are extremely small and have huge sphereical backdrops like portrait models do.
You could take a stab at those maybe.

Just a small gripe about the infestor hero:

I was fiddling around with the concept of C&C+starcraft until i realized i can't move the minimap!
Is moving the default game UI possible? I wont bother with the idea anymore if thats the case.

If you bump the terrain up a tiny bit, the light wont be as bright on the ground.
Bad workaround, but eh.

It no longer says MINERALSSSSSSSS
It just says minerals in a short way, like "uh dude you need some minerals"
