posted a message on Efficient way to copy a unit?

I don't know exactly what part of the sound editor in the actor section you have to look for, but it has to deal with the death sound that the actor is referencing. It is probably trying to reference an imaginary sound because of the silly actor/naming system.

    Hope that helps.

posted a message on How do I create an actor on unit, but make actor not rotate

I would assume turnable is one correct method. You also might think of attaching it to the origin of the unit.

posted a message on A genre too common and a genre too rare.

There might actually be maps, like the ones you have described already on battle.net but they may be buried underneath all of the popular maps.

The problem I see as to why people may not have created these maps is that the people who wanted them made may have attempted to make them. Sometimes the editor is a little daunting and people may lose interest in their map if there is little interest shown for it. Time is also an issue but I feel that the general reason for why people never finish these projects is incentive. People may move onto other projects or ideas that have sparked their interest.

Also, super massive necro? 141 day gap?

    I concur with Molsterr.

What we have right now is great! Sure there are things that could make it amazing, and I am sure we will see those down the line.

Blizzard is on it. Remember, as always, their slogan is "It'll be done when it's done."

Plus, if Blizzard follows their philosophy with taking in idea as they do with WoW. We will see some good things inspired by the community in time. Honestly, it there anything really bad about the game right now or anything extremely lacking? (aside from possibly the popularity system)

    And I prefer "soon(tm)"

posted a message on artistic skill = better at editor?

I personally believe that you can succeed even with a lack of artistic skill. Multiple portions of the editor do not require any artistic skills what-so-ever, unless you count making all your Data Editor stuff clearly organized. Your hardest part of your map creation would probably be finding a terrain that you like and want. I seem to always have that problem. I make something and it just keeps evolving (adding more or deleting) Honestly, you don't need artistic skills.

posted a message on Little Video I made

The voice over was used from in game files. I just added in through a video editing software. (Sony Vegas)

I do this with all of my other videos/cinematics. Almost all of them are recorded without any sound.

Well ok, not the SC2 editor. But I have done stuff with that. I figured, why not try to make a epic feeling video from a simple boss fight recording.

posted a message on Applying buffs repeatedly with limit?

Probably the best way to do this is by using abilities that apply an infinite duration buff(behavior) to the unit. (like stim pack but think of it without its cost and its limited duration)

To keep track you will probably want to use validators (which i don't know how to use)

Then either an ability that removes all behaviors to reset each mutation or an ability that uses a trigger to clear it.

To have a universal upgrade system i would recommend doing a trigger that removes all the abilities of Level 1 X and then replaces them with Level 2 X. This is probably all possible through the data editor but I don't know how to do the universal system. Probably through validators.

It would be under costs in either the ability or the buff. I don't know off the top of my head which one.

    Quote from SouLCarveRR: Go

    @LordAbyss: Go

No offense but your wasting your time. If people try to use those sample function you posted they are gonna have no idea why they are failing when your functions dont take into account unit types. AND YOU MUST TAKE UNIT TYPES INTO ACCOUNT OR YOU WILL EPIC FAIL AND HAVE NO IDEA WHY.

How hard is it to save a count of units from a temp unit group to a variable and do a < or > on it? If people cant figure that out on thier own they prolly shouldnt be using the editor.

First off, please for the sake of everyone, reply in a fashion that displays a respect for others.

I don't need to make the user specify a unit because that is not the functionality of this functions. They are suppose to return every unit in the map owned by the specified player. The reason why I did this, is because I was responding to a forum post. I did not "fail" in any way in the construction of my functions. If I did fail, it would be in the syntax of the functions but not the theory behind it. (I did have others check the syntax)

Also, from the way you wrote your last paragraph, it would appear you are advocating for us at mapster to exclude the people who want to learn the editor. What better way is there to learn it, then by looking at what other people have done? Please try not to be so narrow minded in your approach to helping people as it is degrading to the community in general.

posted a message on [Trigger Library - Map] General Functions/Conditions

I could probably do a Phoenix Fire ability. It is quite simple to do the in the data editor and more efficient to do in the data editor.

Edit: The reason why did those first couple functions is because their is no easy method of doing those unless you have some knowledge of the editor. My aim is to provide these things and make other people's creation easier and more efficient.
