If you are seeking help in a real time fashion i would check out the IRC. While we do have some trollers every now and then, it can easily turn into a wonderful discussion about mapping or anything.
So just recently my current video card's fan died and I am looking to purchase a new one. Currently my price limit is right around 150. Just looking for suggestions and reasons why.
BTW another question:
The contest is focused on visual appearance, correct? Actual playability and 100% bugfree working spells are not required, right?
While yes it is focused on that, it would be preferred if your unit worked 100% or as close to it as possible. Some people might want to download the map and look at it and it won't help them if the unit only works if you do something the right way.
I didnt unterstand this contest yet. So i have to create a new unit with my custom spells and i have to customize the model of the unit? So i cant take a normal stalker. I have to change its model/theme?
You don't have to customize the model of the unit, but then it would be plain. Look at what people did for the creature contest. This one is expanding on that to fill in some abilities that go with the theme.
For those who want to delve into attachments here is a good tutorial for that.
If you don't know how to start, ProzaicMuze made a step by step tutorial: How to make an Uberlisk. Don't be afraid by the length of it, it really goes into great detail to explain why things were done, it takes no more than 10 minutes to do the Uberlisk.
Deadlines
You have 14 days to complete this contest.
End of the submissions: Tuesday, July 5th - Noon PDT (Los Angeles)
End of the submissions: Tuesday, July 12th - Noon PDT (Los Angeles)
End of the submissions: Friday, July 15 - Noon PDT (Los Angeles)
A public vote will be held after the end of the submissions to decide who wins.
Reward
The main goal of the contest is to further community development within GalaxyEdit. The rewards can be see as follows:
Well currently I am studying to become an Electrical Engineer. Interning right now so I am trying to pull together some time just to relax. Interning as a Test Engineer for a Semiconductor Company
I started mapping back in warcraft 3 and what I did was just modify a map that I really liked and attempted to make it balanced but that kind of failed. I was ignorant back there. Now I map because I love to design things and build things, hence the engineer. I guess designing things runs in my blood.
I haven't been mapping recently but I will probably pick back up.
And I am 99.9999999999% sure he is wrong also. Honestly, even we don't know what it is, but I bet I have more information then most people. So, I am pretty sure Blizzard is not involved in this at all.
So I decided to start this little project. I will be creating (already did) and updated a spreadsheet with the goal of allowing people to compare two units and get some sort of analysis based on several inputs. Of course more inputs will be coming along and PLEASE post ideas on what you would like to see and if possible a mathematical means of preforming these comparisons to aid my in adding it.
I don't pretend to be great at these things but I am trying to provide people with tools to make their life easier.
Currently this only provides a basic comparison and some simple graphs to give people a visual idea.
Enjoy
Tasks
Armor Percent Reduction
Distance Traveled
Single Target Spells - Damage Only
Single Target Spells - Debuffs
Notes: There appears to be a math problem with evasion, do not use that right now. Will update later with a corrected version.
Depending on how you have the players select the units may make it easier or harder to create the units. If you have the play send a "selector unit" to a region and then transfer control that would be simple.
What you would do is have the units already grouped before you even enter the trigger editor. Then you would do something along the lines of:
When unit X enters region Z
For each unit in unit group Y - Change unit ownership to player of unit X.

Anything that blizzard made is fair game.

Creature/hero with abilities that has some sort of theme, ice templar, fire zergling, carebear tank. As long as there is a distinguishable theme.

Updated the rules, kind of reused old formats.

Seeing as we haven't had a contest in a little while and since we haven't had one like this in a long time. I figured it is time to do it!
What to do?
Create a THEMED creature that is complete with spells. There are a few rules:

Possible ideas might come from a previous contest that was similar.

Deathtorn's reply is a good one.
