I don't understand why people think this concept that using exactly the same heroes is fine for DotA 2. The art for the heroes was not made by the creators of DotA, they were made by staff at Blizzard.
Now Valve are basing their characters off many of the Warcraft 3 characters/ models because they hired someone who maintains a mod for the game. Since when was that ok?
I don't feel like arguing about this, especially since someone else shares my opinion as well, so I am clearly not alone here.
The point of Dota 2 was to be a continuation of DotA. Both games will be updated together until DotA 1 falls off the map. If everything goes the way it was planned you should be able to use the same strategies from Dota 2 in DotA 1. If they changed the characters it wouldn't follow IceFrogs plan for the game.
Some history on DotA. Not even Eul came up with the initial idea. DotA 2 has no new heroes because it is a direct port from DotA 1. Both DotA 1 and DotA 2 will be updated together as long as there is interest in the first one.
Being a long time DotA player, I do like the route that Valve/Icefrog is taking. I hope they keep a lot of the tricks still in DotA2 like there is in the warcraft 3 engine and remove some of the bugs that occur.
As of right now the map War of Finality is getting very close to go into full blown creation. For a long time I have outsourced the creation of the heroes in this and so this map has been put on hold.
What I am looking for is a person or a few people to help me build a few things for my map. Specifically someone who is skilled with Dialogs and possibly Terrain.

This is a very laid back project. I only expect to be updated on how things are going. If you need a break, go ahead and take it.
If this problem is unique to this one map, I would suggest creating a new project for it here on mapster and setting the section/type of map to Broken Maps. Sixen will then attempt to find out what is wrong with it and possibly send a response back to you. I do now know how custom models will work with this process but that is my suggestion.
So in my free time I will be attempting to recreate some of the more famous abilities in dota and bring them over to the Starcraft 2 editor. Feel free to give suggestions/comments.
Warning: Some abilities I put up may still have error or are still a work in progress. This is just something I am doing in my free time and want to share it with the community.

So you happen to know what I am going to do/not do? I have been playing Dota for 5+ years. I will be purchasing Dota 2.
